I was watching this on CSPAN and sat with my lower jaw bouncing on the floor while this was going on. I couldn't believe this dingbat congresswoman was attempting character assassination while claiming to be giving Gore an opportunity to "clear the air"!! She obviously didn't have a clue what she was getting herself into. The best part though, was after the exchange the cameras panned back over to Gore and he had the best "WTF?" look on his face. Priceless.

Good lord those pundits are annoying!!! Regardless of the content on the show, I think it speaks volumes that those wack jobs all get paid huge salaries to bicker with guests like kindergardners. I really can't stand the cable "news" cycle, truly the worst thing to happen to America since coal. I keep meaning to read "Black Swan", I caught an interview with Taleb on CSpan that was absolutely fascinating. On Two real financial thinkers venture into CNBC fantasy world; comedy ensues posted 9 months, 1 week ago 4 Responses

That solar plant in Frederick....
"the outer-D.C. suburb of Frederick County, Maryland, is expanding a major solar-panel plant (owned by British Petroleum)"
A class mate of mine in my MBA program works for BP Solar and indicated, a few months back, that BP had pulled the plug on that plant in Frederick to open it somewhere else (I think China, but not certain).
It may be they have changed their mind and decided to reopen it, but I don't think so. I will check with my class mate.On The dirty secret behind D.C.'s high-tech Virginia suburbs posted 1 year, 1 month ago 7 Responses
They need more of this
I have decided to stop donating money to the Obama campaign until they toughen up a bit. I honestly don't know why they are so afraid to go after Palin and McCain as the liars they are. Joe Romm is right, toughness wins in America so they better toughen up.On Wow posted 1 year, 2 months ago 6 Responses

regular exercise at the gymCompletely unrelated comment, but props to the use of the radiohead lyric. Apparently, that song (poem?) creeps alot of people out. I felt creeped out by the RNC, especially Giulliani. I find it odd that one of the tennents of the conservative movement is self-reliance, yet they mock those who are self-reliant when it suits them. Oh, and Giulliani destroyed the community gardens (which were the products of community organizing without any gov't involvement) so that his real estate developer buddies like Trump could build condos. What a complete dickhead that guy is.On Conservative heavy-hitters discuss what makes for a safer world posted 1 year, 2 months ago 13 Responses
Those who volunteer....
In response to Guinho, the people who volunteer to do the work that you speak of do it because they have resources available to allow them to do it. I would imagine that the head start families you refer to probably don't do a lot of volunteer work because they are too busy working 3 jobs so they can pay their rent.
Also, I don't think that Van Jones was calling anyone a racist, but instead trying to point out that the more ethnically and economically diverse the environmental movement becomes, the more effective it will be at getting the message to take hold. Unfortunately, there is a very very large portion of people in this country who make purchasing decisions on price alone and the environmental movement has done absolutely nothing to get the message across that going green isn't going to cost blue-collar and working poor families an arm and a leg.On An interview with Van Jones, advocate for social justice and shared green prosperity posted 1 year, 4 months ago 9 Responses

no need to be embarassed
I generally sob uncontrollably when I listen to Sen. Obama speak. He hits a chord with human beings, not just Americans. We haven't had true leadership in our government for what seems like decades now and for so long we have only had people telling us to be afraid of everything. This is an important election cycle. On Dipdive posted 1 year, 10 months ago 19 Responses
State's Rights my A**
Conservative Republicans only support things like State's Rights and 'Personal Responsibility' when it suits their causes. Much like Advocating for free trade out of one side of their mouth while maintaining protectionist sugar tariffs out of the other.
Does it seem odd to anyone else that while campaining in Michigan Romney won the state while arguing that increased CAFE standards are bad for America, but while in California supports the Govenator's waiver request. On All four Republican candidates support California's right to a waiver from the Bush EPA posted 1 year, 10 months ago 4 Responses
Very inspiring
While my first choice for the Dems is still Edwards (who apparently doesn't have much of a snowball's chance in hell), Sen. Obama makes a strong case. While he may not have tons and tons of experience (which is probably a good thing) or the pedigree of Sen. Clinton, he has the ability to inspire people to act and do right by others and that is something that we haven't had in this country for a long long long time. While he is basically using the same message as the other dem candidates (which is a good message) he is able to differentiate himself with that ability to inspire. We need a strong transformational leader to get us pointed in the right direction, but that same leader will also need to have the transactional skills to facilitate action. Does Sen. Obama have the transactional skill set? I guess that's the gamble. On Barack Obama at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 20 Jan. 2008 posted 1 year, 10 months ago 7 Responses
bummer
This article kind of makes me want to go home, eat a handful of xanax and stare at a wall for a while. It is very true that the climate crisis' potential scale for devastation is almost incomprehensible. I think over the past few years I have actually experienced a few episodes of debillitating grief and depression because of it. The mantra of, "What the hell am I supposed to do now?" continues to echo in my head. I can stop driving (I have already minimized driving) and I can buy only local food (organic or not) and I can stop buying useless plastic crap at wal-mart (not really all that hard to do) and if all of my countrymen and fellow humans follow in kind we are still fucked. Sobering isn't really the word for it.On It's too late to stop climate change, argues Ross Gelbspan -- so what do we do now? posted 1 year, 11 months ago 45 Responses
For the love of....
Why anyone would support a party whose leaders and mainstream pundits spend alot of their time insulting and degrading people (the douche above, Rush, Coulter, the fox guy whose name I have managed to forget) is beyond me. So now misogynist can be added to the list of dubious titles Cheney owns: War Criminal, Draft Dodger, liar, lord of the underworld. The Democrats have their problems, and are definitely far from perfect, but I have never heard a Democrat insult somebody like that. It is absolutely ridiculous. On Notable quotable posted 1 year, 11 months ago 3 Responses
Its a popularity contest
Funny how the candidates who come out with clear positions on the issues are always the ones at the bottom of the pile. Why is it that the highest polling candidates are always the ones that hem and haw the most or are outright owned by special interests (ahem, Bush, ahem).
Even though McCain has fip flopped on the issue, you have to admire his moxy for coming out against Ethanol subsidies IN Iowa. That takes some gumption. On Politicians and the art of deception posted 2 years ago 7 Responses
