Sam, I read your comments
Dear Sam, I read your comments. And information is rather misguided.
- Most cows are sick in the livestock production, that is why half of all the antibiotics in this country is used on livestock. - Now if the cows were not sick why would they give them antibiotics?
- The cows are not lying down because of old age, in fact a cow outside of the livestock industry lives to be around 23 years old. The cows that are consumed in the factory farming are usually killed by the average age of 5 years old. For male baby cows, it is much sooner, to product veal. So the ideas of old age in the factory farming is not applicable.
I hope that you do some research, not through the meat lobbyist though. Proper research, and come to a more realistic conclusion. - I wish you luck in finding real information Sam!

meat & drug industry makes loads of money!
All those chemicals that are pumped into the animals body, and then we eat the diseased animals! and have to take drugs to cure all the diseases the animal had! erm,,, So the meat and drug industry make money, whilst the people and animals die! - yeah does not seem right!
I like this approach of talking to people about food choices. because I think there is a great lack of good food education. However if you ever try to tell people the benefits of being veggie, they shut off!
Its like an investment, if you make an investment in your health, your body will grow to be strong and health in return. - but no one ever wants to hear that. People are too busy
with the big Mac and fries, with a "diet" coke!
And the skinless/lean crap is no better!

A funny story. -
I had been a vegetarian all my life. I was raised in a Hindu family. No meat + no fish. I moved from London, UK to America. Everyone here eats meat. My husband also eats meat. So a few months ago, I started to wonder if I should eat meat. I looked into the Standard American Diet (SAD), all the health issues, all the ethical issues, all the treatment in the factory farming, all the organic methods, all the economic issues and all the world food distrubution issues, all the marketing elements, and the political lobbyist form Tyson etc..
After my research, I am now a vegan!
Standard American Diet - SAD - yes it very much is!

new solutions
okay,, so a few solutions have been tried according to threads above. However, lets remember if we can put a man on the moon, I am sure we can find a solution for a hundred sea lions. I mean really, think about how far we have got with technology, so surely there are other solutions then killing the innocent sea lions.
If anyone has suggestions, lets get something together a put a plan together. - killing is not the answer! its just making the situation worse.
It does not have to be "them v's us". there has to be solutions to help everyone involved. On Federal officials suggest killing sea lions to protect salmon posted 1 year, 10 months ago 40 Responses
yes, - more good solutions,
Hi Tasermon,
I like the fact that you are thinking of another solution. So many times people think with the "them versus us" manner. Usually both parties lose. So I like the alternative solutions, lets see if there are more.
Its not the sea lions fault that a) there is a dam, and b)there fishes are so over fished!
The fact sea lions are only doing what natural, eating their diet! Unlike us they has a limited varity. Whereas we have hundreds if not thousands of choices of what we eat!
Again thank you for suggesting the alternative solution. On Federal officials suggest killing sea lions to protect salmon posted 1 year, 10 months ago 40 Responses
i agree with you!
I agree with you. I think it is very stupid, to kill more animals, to solve a 4% of the reason why salmon are disappearing! - What about the % of salmon that are disappearing because humans keep eating them! it is very unfair! support local.
I would rather support my local farmers and community then to consumer goods that I am not sure of the conditions they were made in! The taste in locally grown food is also different. Example: veggies from farmers markets taste better then the ones in the super market that traveled thousands of miles.
Another benefit of eating locally is, it makes me try new and different things at different times in the year. Whereas shopping from the super market, I usually buy the usual stuff all the time!On Joel Stein of Time takes a poke at the locavores posted 1 year, 10 months ago 10 Responses
4% v's 96%
okay, the article above said that sea lions are killing 4%, so why are we trying to solve the 4% of the salmon that are killed only? Why are we not looking at the 96% - of the factors - that are causing this problem? On Federal officials suggest killing sea lions to protect salmon posted 1 year, 10 months ago 40 Responses
I hope this a starting trend,

cutting rain forrest!
Agriculture has been cutting down the forest for years! Mainly McDonalds. Cut the rain forest to raise cows to kill cows to eat more meat, to get fat, then drive all the time because we are too fat to walk! Then cut more rain forrest to provide fuel for the car to drive to go to the fastfood chain to buy more meat, which cuts down more rain forrest! Stop eating Salmon!
If salmon is so important, then maybe people should stop eating Salmon, instead of killing more animals for a problem that humans created! On Federal officials suggest killing sea lions to protect salmon posted 1 year, 10 months ago 40 Responses
to tax or not to tax
The problems with taxing:
- Using plastic bags is easy of operation, meaning using plastic bags does not essential to way of life, its just convenient to use for a few minutes.
- Many companies + people would be happy to pay for the taxes.. with little regard to the real reasons for not needing plastic bags.
- A tax may bring a negative reaction, - "another tax..." and the real point maybe lost as to why plastic bags are not good for the world around us.
- Maybe by banning plastic bags, people would take a few moments thinking about all the other things we can improve upon too.
- Using cloth bags may reduce the number of items we buy... many times we buy things form impulse versus, do I really need that. Especially in developed countries where cost of living is very good. - sorry I keep having flashes of Walmart shopping cart!

Good example to the rest of the world!
I think that's great. Plastic bags are waste. They do so much damage.
I see so many people in stores in the USA that use bags but then just thrown them away. Stores in the US state on the bottom on the bag in very tiny writing - "recyclable". Hence the stores are not responsible for the waste, but the people rarely recylce the bags. Sure a few percentage do, but its not enough!
I think if this works in the Aus. Maybe the US will follow! - hopefully! On Australia will phase out plastic bags posted 1 year, 10 months ago 14 Responses
