  • $50B (R) Utah. Disgraceful

It was only a matter of time before someone attempted to get money from the FED for this type of B.S.

Leave it to a (R) from Utah to get it thrown in.
No RISK of getting beat the next election, that is for sure.

    Disgraceful. Nothing short of Disgraceful.

Where are these spent fuel rods going?

I KNOW. How about we Forget...

Maybe it would be best to move everything to UTAH. They could care less about spent fuel rods there. What they don't know doesn't seem to really matter anyway. Surely if the big companies say it is OK, it must be.

  • Conservation of FUEL should be an indvidual choice

It is total FUEL AWARENESS that might bring about that conservation choice sooner rather than later.

Forcing people to do as you might wish sounds very extreme right wing to me. Funny have the extreme left and the extreme right seem to wish to force their own awareness on everyone else.

To be forced to do whatever in my view is total
    and complete Bull crap.

Rather how about the idea of educating the masses on the common logic of using less fuel. Will it take time, is it a job that pays no money. YES

Knowing the facts and explaining them in a way everyone might understand them is stepping back in time about 10 years an slowing down to let everyone else catch up to YOU. Who wants to do that?  Who has time?  How about we make the time to simply start to educate over and over again until everyone gets IT.

390M gals of gas a day X 365 days in the year.

That is 142,350,000,000 as in 142B gals a year.

5% might be a good number to consider however a more logical goal might be 3.3%. That is still a major reduction.

If every three years we might see a 14.2B gal gasoline reduction the future of fuel would shift in a major way. This would allow time for a bridge between the current transportation system structure to one that is far more green.

That shift will not take place without the car companies moving NOW to improve MPG. Those that do will get the business, those who do not will be going out of business. Do the Officers at Chevy and Ford get this yet? They may not but you can bet Honda and Toyota understand. How totally LAME is that.

  • Keeping demand down is the KEY

    http://current.com/items/89110919_consumption_of_gasoline ...

so far the average has been 10M gals less per day, which is only 2%.

If that number could be reduced by 10% in two years that would be a reduction of 50M gals per day.

If that number could be reduced by 30% we would see a reduction of 150M gals per day. Could this be done? Conservation and better MPG is extremely important. I am seeing far more MOTOR BIKES here.

I am also seeing far less BIG SUVs. One was in front of me the other day and the total on the pump read $78. My guess is the vehicle was almost half full upon arriving. This will simply not stand even as security and protection are the two most important aspects of travel for these family oriented buyers.

The downturn we are seeing here will soon be seen all over the world and demand will fall far faster than most expect. It was easy to see this bubble in the price. What goes up, must come down.

If the car companies survive they will be forced to produce vehicles that produce far better MPG than before.

  • The TRUE cost of imported OIL.

390M gals of gasoline being used per day now, while we are still importing more than that to cover all the current needs.

YES conservation, however even with the current prices consumption is only down 10.5M gals per day. Could that be reduced by 100M gals per day?

Perhaps over time. To be sure it will require better MPG and less travel.

Keep in mind the largest demand comes for our NATIONAL SECURITY DEMANDS WHICH ARE REAL, something I have attempted to point out, however LOST that issue seems to be here.

LF is required regardless and BTL is but one potential attractive solution.

Solar and hydrogen are coming on via HONDA, however I have no idea if that idea will take hold or not because you are talking about major national fueling demands which are also REAL.

With regard to Ethanol. If you may recall the underground storage tanks were leaking and what was the potential danger to the water table, do you remember? The real why and how of ethanol came about because of this most important environmental remediation issue.

What was that cost for UST clean up, any guess?

SOLAR, WIND, Electric cars, fine. BUT What about real horse power needs. And what about mobility demands.

If solar, wind, electric cars can reduce current gasoline use to 200M gals per day, I say great, bring it on. IN FACT what are you waiting for.

They may have reason to be afraid, as cost

  • A cheaper sustainable U.S. fuel source matters.

1.3 billion dry tons of biomass in the U.S. (most of our biomass needs) and still be able to meet all food, feed, and export demands. This would be an alternative scenario to get biomass without energy crops.

Might guess is that It will matter to the working poor in rural areas as a potential ray of hope.

Growing 20 ft. tall sorghum sounds like heaven to me. Planting trees in that same field also sounds nice.

I planted 3 nice little trees just the other day along the 300 ft. fence line back to the creek. Need to plant about 200 more. Takes a while to dig the holes with a good shovel as the dirt is hard, but as I understand, this is a good time, as it allows the roots recovery in order to then soak up the spring rain.

They say this will all be re-zoned commerical soon, however my guess is the trees i plant will be allowed to stay. I will need to keep the horses off of them until they have a chance to grow up. I believe that any good green manager of the land can make it better. Tree planting is a very important part of that effort. Paying the loans off is another. I recommend it to anyone who loves the land.

  • Argoforestry, Intercropping, and fast growing

Low cost feedstocks that would grow wild, fast, thick, and tall might become ideal.

Can you think of any feedstock that sounds like it could do all of that and has already been banned from growth by the plastics and petro. elite for fear it might start to grab some of their total control of market share?

If Solar, Wind, and Biomass work together for a sustainable future, my guess is it might be possible to find room for all. The low cost provider might simply hold the largest share of the alternative energy pie. Still a very small pie when measured against current low cost energy providers, be it the grid or LF.

Pesently that title is held by coal, oil, natural gas, and hydro. If Solar, Wind, and Biomass do make alternative energy more attractive guess who starts moving into those new energy markets?
