Artificial meat
Methinks this kind of meat substitute might very well be suitable for cheeseburgers!
However, the inventor of artificial meat, a Norwegian company , thinks it will take some years to produce the meat .

Whales
I have previously posted this at a blog piece:
Whales, Dolphins and Sonar - A Note from Ann Novek
Posted by Paul, at 11:32 PMMid-frequency sonar signals linked to new pathologic entity in cetaceans.
An ongoing battle has been fought between environmental NGOs , mainly NRDC , and the US Navy for more than a decade.
The first rumours re the harmful impact of LFA ( Low -frequency Active) sonar on marine mammals, began already in 1994 , when NRDC investigated sound experiments off California coast. Even 300 miles from the source , these sonic waves have an intensity of 140 decibels , and some mid -frequency sonar systems can put over 235 decibels , as loud as a Saturn V rocket at launch.
The use of deadly sonar in the world's oceans is spreading. The US Navy states ,the sonar is needed to detect hostile diesel -electric submarines from China, Iran and North Korea and other potential hostile countries.
In late January 2008, a dead Northern Right Whale Dolphin washed ashore off California , and this death was linked to ongoing naval exercises.
Sonar possible cause in death of rare dolphin
" The lesions that we have seen to date are consistent to what has been found in the Canary Islands and the Bahamas", said lead veterinarian , Rowles , with the National Oceanic and Athmospheric Administration.
"Scientists in the journal Nature theorized that these deep-diving whales might have panicked and bolted to the surface, causing decompression sickness, similar to the "bends" or air embolisms that can affect human divers. The problem arises when gas bubbles, compressed under the pressure of depth, expand rapidly and tear delicate tissues"
Excerpt from Nature : " Macroscopically, whales had severe , diffuse congestions and hemorrhage , especially around the acoustic jaw fat , ears , brain , and kidneys . "

"Gas and Fat Embolic Syndrome" Involving a Mass Stranding of Beaked Whales (Family Ziphiidae) Exposed to Anthropogenic Sonar Signals

Whales
You can discuss whaling directly with the whalers at my blog:
I have invited Laila from High North Alliance, a prowhaling organisation.
It may be very strange for the Americans but the Norwegian Greens promote whale meat staek as enviro friendly.
Mr Hauge , promoted by the Times magazine , as environmental hero of the environment , eats minke whale staek.
Latest news from Norway is however , that the notorious whaling boat Nybraena , has shoot her last harpoon , due too political pressure and bureacracy around whaling.
The Nybraena is famed for being in confrontations with Greenpeace and Sea Shepherd back in the 90's.On Helicopters collect whale snot from blowholes! posted 1 year ago 4 Responses

As I live in Scandinavia , I invited the whalers to my blog for a dialogue. ( I'm a former Greenpeace activist).
Here's the whaler reply to meat eating.
They say whale meat is " sustainable" , free range , " animal-friendly , without hormones and antibiotics and carbon low and not destroying habitat.http://annimal.bloggsida.se/diverse/reply-from-laila-from ...

Vaclav Claus is a shame
As having roots from Estonia , that was occupied by the Soviets for over 50 years I must say that Claus crusade against environmentalism is a shame.
In Estonia the fight against the Soviets were also carried out by environmentasts that were opposed for example to the very polluting phosphate mining.
Another dissisent , former Soviet naval office Pasko , was imprisoned in a labour/ prison camp for highlighting the Soviet Pacific's Fleets radioactive dumping. His case was fought by Amnesty International.
Now Pasko is working as an environmental journalist for Norwegian NGO Bellona. He is opposed to Russian oil and gaz giant Gazprom , that must have connections with Lukeoil ( from which Claus has received money) .
Pasko is an environmentalist that has written pieces like " The descendants of Gulag" and been awarded by " the Journalists without Borders" prize.

Woves and Protection
Methinks the wolf hate is as big in the US as it is in Scandinavia. Read my blog post on this :
http://annimal.bloggsida.se/diverse/illegal-hunting-of-pr ...
It is also strange that in other countries with wolves such as Russia , Estonia , Romania etc , there's hardly no wolf hate at all. People have also big dogs to protect the livestock.
In Sweden thre's a big wolf hate in rural communities. They blame the urbanites to not understand the issue , and say you wouldn't like to have them in your neighbourhood neither.
Wolves are also good for the environment since they kill moose and the left overs from the cadavers are very suitable food for Arctic foxes , that mostly are an endangered species. For example , in Sweden there are only 120 Arctic foxes. On Judge puts Great Lakes wolves back on endangered-species list posted 1 year, 2 months ago 2 Responses

Antibiotics and Animals
All health care people try today to diminish the use of anti biotics due to the scare of resistance. So it's scary that vets still prescribe widely anti biotics to the meat industry. ( Though many deny this).
I grew up with horses and have had a license to train race horses in Sweden. It was a well known fact that horses who didn't go out in the paddocks were more sensible to viruses, so if you wanted to keep your horses healthy they needed the outdoor keeping as much as possible.
I have a blog on animal and enviro issues:

Hydrogen whale watching boat
Whale watching ship to be powered by hydrogen
Icelandic energy company Nýorka is planning to install a hydrogen engine in the whale watching ship Elding by summer 2008, which would be the first of its kind in the world. If everything goes according to plan, Elding will sail out of Reykjavík harbor powered by hydrogen in June 2008 and test the new engine at sea, Fréttabladid supplement Markadurinn reports.
The design of the engine is Icelandic, but the generator is imported.
"We believe we are taking a new path and we hope knowledge in this field will become very valuable in the future," said Jón Björn Skúlason, managing director of Nýorka.
Skúlason said foreign media like the Discovery Channel had taken interest in the project.
"People envision environmentally friendly energy for boats instead of oil. [...] With the hydrogen generator there will be no pollution from the engine or vibration from the boat."
The total cost of the project is estimated at ISK 40 million (USD 622,000, EUR 460,000).
