  • Did Hillary really lose because of sexism?

Something must have changed from last September, when she was a shoe-in, to now!

Was it Bill Clinton attacking Obama, saying that he was being picked on because of his (Bill Clinton's) race?  Was it Hillary invoking race in such a negative way?  Was it this business with Reverend Wright?  Was it the gas tax thing?  Was it...On Hillary Clinton posted 1 year, 5 months ago 21 Responses

  • Also...

This article was just a terrible argument.  It was kind of confusing and just dumb.  Here are a few arguments that work better, and are simpler:

-These bulbs will save lots of $$$ and electricity.
-These bulbs have mercury in them, yes, but they reduce mercury emissions from coal power plants.
-There are many varieties of these bulbs, many of which are identical in their light quality to incandescents.
-Waiting a minute for the light to "heat up" is a small price to pay for a much lighter electricity bill and a better world. On Have you been naughty with your light bulbs? You need some good old command and control. posted 1 year, 9 months ago 33 Responses

  • Easterbunny, this one's for you

Incandescent lightbulbs and other appliances that give off waste heat only heat the area directly around them.  So unless you're using an incandescent lightbulb to light an animal's cage or something like that, the heat just kind of stays around the bulb and dissipates too quickly to be noticed. • Guess who's in bed with the ethanol giants...

...Barack Obama!  Not him!  Not really!  I thought he was perfect!  Oops, looks like he isn't.  Looks like he's spent multiple years in the Senate, and accomplished nothing.  Unlike Mike Gravel.  By the time he had spent 2 years in the Senate, he had ended the draft by filibustering for 5 months, released the Pentagon Papers to help end the Vietnam war, and so so much more.

  • Maybe not a question of race, but one of class

In the US, minorities tend to be poorer overall than the majority white group.  And richer people tend to have more time on their hands (ie, they worry less about money and simply getting by) and have more time to be "activists."  I think this may play a part in this problem (?) in the environmental movement. On U.S. green movement is decidedly white posted 1 year, 10 months ago 16 Responses

  • More than a sidenote in the debacle

This could be the start of something great in Iraq.  Think about it - the people there desperately need a working infrastructure that is not vulnerable to attacks.  What is the best way to do that?  Make the infrastructure very local, and very self-sufficient.  How do you do that?  Green technology, like solar panels, rain barrels, grey water recycling, wind power, green roofs, etc.

The proliferation of green infrastructure in Iraq could be one of the steps to solving the problems there.

  • Agreed.

People tend to vote on "the cult of personality" more than the reality of the candidate's positions, or whether the candidate really has their best interest in mind.

Take, for example, Barack Obama.  He and Hillary have pretty much the same opinion on every issue.  They are both deeply indebted to corporate interests.  And yet I see more progressives supporting Obama than Hillary.  Why?  Because Obama is so much more appealing.  He is very charismatic and has a message of "hope" and "change."  Hope for what?  Change for what?  That doesn't seem to matter. On Romney takes Michigan posted 1 year, 10 months ago 2 Responses

  • Kucinich and Gravel

I was really disappointed that Kucinich and Gravel weren't there.  And Kucinich even put up a fight in court.
