Doesn't sound that good to me
If this catches on, then parents wouldn't have to tell their kids to wipe their shoes first before coming inside so they won't track dirt and mud all over the house, haha.
I think I'll give this one a miss.

Seems like people really have to reach the ultimate peak of development first before realizing that, "Oops, we've gone too far. Time to get green!" Hopefully, China will take action much sooner. No amount of greening up for the Olympics could possibly help if everything else is still running terribly.

I first heard about it only last year, really, when my sister and her husband headed to Best Buy early in the morning only to find that there was already a large crowd there.
It's probably a lot of fun if you get what you want with little effort and for a lower price, but it's not a good thing if people just shop and buy things they don't really want just because they're on sale. Unnecessary items = waste waste waste!

I think Hillary's a pretty capable person, except she doesn't quite have the charm that will make voters gravitate to her. Yeah, I know charm's not the top qualification for politicians, but it does help. I also doubt Kerry will succeed if he ever shoots for the presidency again. People will probably feel that he's already had his chance.

This bit of news would probably encourage governments to stop considering and exploring alternative sources of energy for a while, since, oh, there's a new source of oil anyway. We don't have to worry about a thing. We'll cross that bridge when we get there.
Yikes.

Although I come from a place that regularly churns out world records such as "most number of people kissing at once" or "biggest human rainbow", I personally think world records should be set for something more hardcore and difficult.
BUT ANYWAY. It's good to hear about athletes supporting environmental causes. Why don't we hear more about record-making and -breaking people like him? There seems to be a lot more buzz about Paris Hilton being the most overrated celebrity (like we don't already know that).

I was really really hoping he was just joking with this editorial, but it sounds like he's pret-ty serious here.
At the very least, I'm amused that he's only thought of the "benefits" of global warming to countries with cold or temperate climates. I guess those of us living in parts of the world with usually blazing temperatures will just have to deal, tsk.

Let's say it DID smell like French fries--well that's bound to make a lot of people happy, although I'm sure people would be rushing into fast food places for fries even more so than usual.
By the way, I also read that in Malta, peanut oil and even cooking oil are being used to power diesel vehicles.

But I do see your point, really. Other situations that would elicit outrage in people could have been used instead of gay sex. But I suppose by using "gay sex", the writer was also pointing out that there's still quite a lot of homophobia, hence the idea that a lot of people would be massing in the streets if gay sex caused global warming. Some people (I want to say "politicians who are staunchly against same-sex marriages") would probably work harder to fight global warming--only instead of rallying to the environment's cause, people will be more likely to focus on the homosexuality part instead of the assault on the environment. Tsk.
If only he'd used some other words like "pedophiles", "rapists", or "corrupt politicians" though, or some other universally despised thing/people/issue, it would all be so much simpler.

On Database of sustainability communication projects posted 3 years, 4 months ago 2 ResponsesExcellent piece
I'm not entirely sure what all the fuss is about, because the way I see it, the article is not about anything else but people's attitude towards global warming. The article's basically saying that global warming's a much bigger threat to the planet than anything else, but because it's not a clear and present danger, people don't give it much thought. If we actually saw a great big ball of flame with the words "MWAHAHAA! I am the evil Global Warming, and I am here to destroy you all!" floating in the sky, perhaps people would work harder to prevent it.
And I personally think what he said is true. People would rise up against global warming if what caused it is morally reprehensible and offensive (not that gay sex is bad, but you know how some conservatives, hardcore Catholics, or "moralists" think), and also if what's causing it directly affect people (ie. "Global warming is caused by the fact that you weren't given a raise by your oppressive boss").

As for career advice, hmm...You should at least be interested in environmental matters. I don't think it's entirely necessary to have a background in environmental studies and the like, although I'm sure it helps you provide more informed, well-researched, "expert" articles, etc. But a keen interest is enough to send you on a reading and researching frenzy, which will definitely help you beef up your potential articles. Plus, being new in the environmental writing field ought to mean you're providing a fresh take on topics. Check out green websites and blogs, as well as print publications to find out more about environmental issues nowadays, but don't stick to what's being reported in your country. See what else is going on around the world, and find out how other countries are getting green. Look into how major corporations are developing sustainable practices, what eco-friendly products are being developed nowadays--you get the picture.
That's all I can muster for now. That was a very interesting question, by the way.

I love textbooks!
I loved being able to flip through textbooks in school, but yikes, the prices were back-breaking. Not to mention that I had no use for some of them after I was done with a particular class. Browsing through websites relevant to one's subjects seems easier and cheaper, but it seems to me that it's not REALLY studying. I still like the feeling of sitting down and reading a book on my desk.
