Sometimes business people lie
GreyFlcn,
"This past month, the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, a regional business trade association group, unveiled a 12-point campaign dubbed "Clean and Green" that takes a variety of business issues and frames them in a way it hopes will help members reduce their environmental footprint while at the same time making them more profitable."
From the link of your press release or article, some people view public relations and journalism as the same thing. That's not me judging, simply saying.
I could be wrong, I have been before. In my world plans dubbed with snappy titles that rhyme, put out by business people have in general been slightly not true or tend to exaggerate a truth that they want people who purchase their items to believe.
I of course could be living in a different reality from you.
I mean having some contest with rhmying titles and encouraging people not use air when a package is two ounces is pretty good.
That will do alot. You know my local Catholic primary school pretty much does the same thing on a budget of about 20,000 a year. Possibly MSNBC will to a write up on Our Mother of Good Counsel's third grade class :D
Let me go out and start a contest right now, so I can go out save the planet.

well...
My opinion is that a corporate capitalist can't be green. It's simply impossible.
http://www.orionmagazine.org/index.php/articles/article/2 ...
I can see it now. The Murdoch Foundation helping to green the planet and humanity since 2007. My grandkids will be like, "Murdoch is a great guy." And I will just tell them to pass me my medicine.
I'm going to take a nap.

it's about control of content
Murdoch isn't doing this to do anything, but to control the coverage.
As with Myspace, MTV and all of the other initially very good ideas that turned into what they are now.
Murdoch doesn't care abut the environment just like Bush doesn't care about the environment when he supports ethanol.
Murdoch sees people who are writing about the environment (the new media) as a threat.
A threat that can take away money going to his advertisers and him, so what he is going to do is round up all the environmental writers and activists (that are marketable and have a wide range appeal,) throw some money at them (just a little) and they'll start writing about things like.
Greeing your wedding.
Greening your car.
Greening everything buy.
Keep buying things as long as it's green. The environmental section will become like the calendar section. It will become like the Village Voice.
Remember the Village Voice, remember when the LA Weekly and the NY Village Voice was alternative and not a bunch of rich kids covering their friends bands and covering the same thing that is in the mainstream press but using the word dude and the f*** word to make it more approachable?
That's what's going to happen to the "green" movement when Murdoch gets his little grubby hands on it.
One guy owning everything is always, always a bad idea.

The hurricanes that goes through the gulf that no longer has wetlands that use to just touch the midwest are now backslapping the midwest hard possibly it has nothing to do with Global Warming, possibly it does.
President Bush being completely out of touch and stupid, possibly it has nothing to do with him not having a brain and being a complete selfish ass, possibly it does...

I wrote a little piece on it (not this very thing, but just my feelings about some things) on my blog...
Here's just a snippet of the funny part of the future of the green movement if we don't figure out that is truly is the economy and consumerism that's killing the planet not the wrong light bulb.
"...Conde Nast will snort up the ashes and create a magazine called simply, Green.
Each month a very thin vegan model dressed in Green will be on the cover and try to sell us various hemp made products, because by then hemp will be legal (and taxed).
Marlboro will own the marijuana market.
Heal the Bay will become a government agency run by the post office. You'll have to stand in line for hours simply to get the 20 page document to get permission to have a clean-up. You'll have to do it six months in advance or risk large fines. Doing a clean-up will be like paying your taxes. Cleaning up the planet will actually become mandatory, but for some reason it will be a lot less fun and you'll have to pay for the privilege to do it..."On Rupert Murdoch launches effort to green News Corp.'s operations and programming posted 2 years, 6 months ago 14 Responses

I hate cops and I hate rent-a-cops even more
In LA on the Metro the cops randomly bother people who are not contributing to the gridlock that is Los Angeles freeways.
There are laws if you're in your car that cops can't bother you unless you're doing something wrong, but if you're on public transport, it's open season.
I love how rent-a-cops are always very knowledgeable of the rules, but never can tell you basic information like, where the entrance is, particulars about the neighborhood that they work in, pretty much anything useful they don't know.
They also have a good habit of never being around when someone is getting beaten to death by hooligans. Not that it's common to get beaten to death in a dark parking lot, but I guarantee you if it ever happened to you, the rent-a-cop would be on their smoke break.

Thanks for this wealth of information. We often parrot things, because they are popular to say, but it's always good to find the facts, with sources.

"The one thing I have NEVER seen at the farmers market or any environmental event I have ever attended is young women trolling for a mate."
Not true. Ok true story. My friend we'll call her Rainbow, had just broken up with her boyfriend, because she wanted to have an open relationship and he was like, "Are you out of your mind?"
What she wanted I think was to be a swinger, you know 1960s and 1970s style with me and my boyfriend. I found her kind of boring though...I'd go into more detail, but I'm new here and don't want to freak you out.
Anyways she would go around to environmental events all the time looking for guys. Peak oil, vegetarian potlucks, earth day celebrations, conferences actively on the look out for her new eco-man...it worked. She found him...so people are looking.
There are trolling hippie chicks at environmental type functions, maybe you just don't notice the signs.
5 signs a eco-chick is hitting on you
- she asks, "can i hit that."
- she flashes her bottom, she's already topless.
- she compliments your bong.
- she offers you a taste of her kombucha.
- she asks, "are you into sexual experimentation?"
I swear to god though, I went out with my friend (Rainbow, chick in above story) and she just went there (number 5) with this guy and then went on to tell him about her addiction to sex.
I was never sure if she was desperate or simply crazy.

the drivers of consumerism...
Why would you want the kind of person who would troll around at an autoshow for a date.
I'm off the market, but when I was there were certain things I wasn't into and it had to do with people who were consumer addicts.
There are people who aren't consumer addicts, but they aren't going to be the average person. If you're the kind of person who isn't into being a consumer addict, you're probably a little different, why would you want a typical person to date?
You can't have your cake and eat it too. You want June Cleaver, June Cleaver is going to want a house, a wedding with all the fixings and two kids. You want a bottled blonde with silicon breasts, hey that hair cost money to up keep and those breasts take maintenance. You want the fantasy, that fantasy cost money. That's not a judgement on anyone involved, but that's reality.
It's circular really:
...old man wants pretty young woman, pretty young woman wants money, old rich man has money, old rich man has money wants pretty young woman...who started the cycle...there is no beginning or end to a cycle.
You want to date a person who isn't into that, you can find a cute person who is into that, but she might not shave under her arms. She might decide to pack up all of her stuff one day and move to India, informing you of this with a simple note on a recycled paper with a happy face at the end.
You have to decide what you value.
