The notion that greenhouse gases drive Global Warming™ is laughable. Where is the real science these days? There are finally some additional studies coming out stating that the sun drives climate change -it's all cycles. We've already had our warm cycle, and are starting a nice cooling cycle. It's been a nice cool summer, hasn't it? It is predicted we won't set any more record highs until 2020 or so.

Those who still believe that CO2 is the bad guy will all get Rick-Rolled when the real science gets past the media's agenda to make us fearful of the falling sky that is Global Warming™.  

I'm so relieved the skeptics are so vocal and motivated. Think about the last time somebody lied about something you did or said. How passionate were you to setting the record straight?

But not a surprise since congress keeps voting down offshore and other domestic drilling. What did they think would happen?

The more we drill now (using current clean technology) the quicker we'll be able to use it -meaning less reliance on terrorist oil.

I agree coal is polluting, but we can't just ditch it without a replacement. And windpower is not it either. Does anybody remember basic science anymore? Greenhouses are enclosed to keep CO2 levels high, so as to stimulate more growth. I'm not getting your meaning with the above statement. Are you saying it's not getting Globally warmer, and that our winters are pretty much what they've always been (within NORMAL variances)?

I think it's both funny and sad that an opinion like mine and others refuting the corrupt and sensationalist "science" behind the supposed Global Warming^TM is looked at as trollism here.

More and more of the "science" quoted here is being debunked by REAL science -not falsely read computer models and other fear-mongering tactics to scare you to go green.

Plus, where is the mention of oil? We're all happing sheep now that we have a new president and oil prices are low again, but that won't last, and they'll get way higher than they ever were if we don't address drilling domestically for oil.

And to add:

CO2 constitutes less than 0.04% of the atmosphere. How can anyone believe that an increase from 0.036% to 0.037%, for example, could possibly increase air temperature? CO2 is supposed to heat the ground by re-emitting radiation it has absorbed. The idea that individual CO2 molecules can actually radiate enough energy to heat anything sounds so ridiculous that it's hard to understand how any logical person could believe it.

And from what I learned in 6th grade Biology (maybe earlier than that), CO2 helps plants, so an increase would just benefit plant-life on this planet. When did CO2 get the bad rap like the Taliban?  I keep seeing references to IPCC graphs,studies, charts and generally accepted "facts" here. Most posters toss out IPCC references like they're  all 100% true and proven...  when they're not.

Finally some reason here...

It's been said by a few scientists who think that AGW is a huge scam (like I do) -and the reason all these studies are out is because the younger scientists know that in order to get funding, all you have to do is attach Global Warming^TM to your study, and BAM, you're funded. Meanwhile the peer checks and rechecks are pretty much scrapped in order to get these results out fast. So there goes the "science" in these so-called studies.

Any warming we are seeing now is part of a 1500yr cycle that's been going on for millions of years.

I live in an arid desert climate, yet I can go out anywhere there is shale and find fossils of fern leaves, shells and prehistoric fish. Hmm, seems like it's been warm way before we were here. I agree: Just switching to any new energy technology is not feasible in any way until there's an infrastructure to support it. Like it or not, we are dependent on oil and will be for decades to come. You can't just say, "hey, everthing's going to be electric from now on -your car is now obsolete."

Trusting old data...

So, if we can barely get reliable weather and climate data now, with all of our knowledge and computing power, how can we trust what was observed back in the mid to late 1800's? Even the early 1900's?

So many AGW zealots think that past weather data, quoted in so many AGW articles,  is just as sound as today's, but there has to be huge discrepancies in past measurements.

Obviously, when you drill, you're poking a hole in something, so there is some destruction. But do you know that these huge offshore drilling rigs create a reef-like ecosystem where oceanlife flourishes? If this were known and supported by Al Gore and the fear-mongering greenies, they'd spin it to say that it's like investing in fish-carbon-credits, since it's offsetting overfishing in other parts of the world.

My point is that these rigs actually help ocean life by creating a man-made reef ecosystem. They are very clean, and will help us cut the cord on foreign oil. You do know that it's the oil tankers shipping oil half-way across the globe that pollute the most right? Take a chill pill or a bong hit or something. Relax, things will be fine. If it's entirely the sun, causing Global Warming^TM then what's to worry about? It's the easiest buzzword to attach to any scientific theory these days that automatically green-lights funding.

And, LeeAnnG says "Logic is not a factor with these people."  yet, you just believe what you're told by the media about Global Warming^TM?  Use your own logic and find the facts, of which there are few.

Truth is, NOBODY can prove any of the supposed "scientific data" that is so often thrown around here and pretty much everwhere. There are theories, but nothing has been proven yet. The Earth and it's complex systems are far too complex and unknown to be able to accurately model and predict what causes what. We can't even predict the weather more than 7 days or so. And all these sheep need something to glom onto and belong to... hence, Global Warming^TM.

These diversions of the truth and automatic discounting of REAL scientific data by Grist members infuriates me. I love how many of you look at a picture and think you're some expert, knowing more than NASA.

We, as a society, really are getting dumber and dumber.  How else can a politician, who claimed he invented the internet, create the CO2 Global Warming^TM scare and this time have everybody believing him? I won't listen to a hypocrite like him, who's carbon footprint (more BS) is 20x that of a normal person. As soon as you bring that up, he's automatically forgiven because he buys carbon credits (more BS). When in actuality, he's just pouring money into his own company(s).
