Outrageous
Honestly, I just can't believe this. Why does he think it's the governments job to keep oil prices low??? I wish I was a better writer so that I could better express my outrage. If we want to see oil prices significantly lower then let's, as consumers, support the alternative energy movement. In general, I think it is important for us to support `green' business that not only provides a social utility but also helps the environment. For example, http://www.simplestop.net stops your postal junk mail and benefits the environment. But I digress... Obama's political idealogy is a slippery slope (John's isn't much better). Where will liberty be in 100 years if the gov't continues down the road it is along.

As a businessman...
As a businessman It is really only reasonable for me to fly because the time in transit is so much shorter compared to car, bus, or train. I've had many heated conversations with my 'train friend' but I won't be convinced of an alternative to flying until something becomes equally efficient. On Umbra on driving versus flying, again posted 1 year, 3 months ago 13 Responses

It's not as simple as saying that "we'd already be using wind power if it was more efficient"... because our infrastructure has been designed for coal etc. for the past two centuries. Wind could be efficient if the infrastructure was built for it.

The truth of the matter is that EM will put its money where it believes is most profitable. They know that oil is going to continue to be very significant player in the future. The legitimate way to prod EM to invest more into Alternative Energy is for us, as consumers, to demand it.

Disappointing. Individuals need to be informed and need to take a stand. Very Important Issue
Quite frankly, this is a VERY important issue. In the coming decades we will see the US, Russia, and Canada claiming stake to the Arctic Circle. The amount of oil and natural gas up there only raises the stakes. Not to mention that Russia just assumes that it deserves all of it.
If itâTMs profitable to dril for oil up north, itâTMs going to be done because Russia will have a stake up there and probably wonâTMt really restrict the area for environmental reasons.
That given, we as individuals need to take greater responsibility for the environmnet. I think it is important for us to support businesses that not only provide us our desired utility but also benefit the environment.
