  • A step at least in the right direction

Speaking as someone who has found the need to wear a mask with carbon filter inserts to at least try and cut down on the toxins I inhale, I say at least it's a start.
I would however like the disclosure by companies of the hazards of chemicals they used/produce.
Never in my wildest dreams (and I was a hippie, so I had some wild dreams folks!) would I have thought that my body would now react to perfume, cologne, newspaper ink, plastics, formaldehyde in furniture, clothing, even plastic food baggies for God's sake etc., etc., etc. in the ways that it now does.  Like many of you, I didn't think I needed to know what was in perfume, shampoo, body lotion, etc.  I've learned the hard way that just because it's on the shelf doesn't mean it's safe.  And hey, if someone had told me this same story 8 years ago I might've thought:  what an odd person.  By the way, my mask is lace (hey, if I have to wear one, why not lace!).  And for any of you who find the need for one, try:  icanbreathe.org

  • I'm all for the no scents

I've been using the crystal for years with no reactions.  I have chemical sensitivities (what a misnomer that is) so I all for anything that doesn't have a scent.  It's extremely hard to get anything that has a 100% natural scent.  Even essential oils - the true ones are really hard to find.  And while you may think it smells good, what about the person next to you?On Making a stink about green(ish) deodorants posted 1 year, 3 months ago 36 Responses

  • What's wrong with the feel of real grass?

Newer fields "generally had the lowest levels," a summary of the evaluation said. "Although small amounts of lead were detected on the surface of older fields, none of these tested fields released amounts of lead that would be harmful to children."

Low level exposure - oh what a blissfully ignorant feeling that evokes.  Ever hear of total body burden?  I now have to wear a carbon filter mask because of "low level" exposure to chemicals in everyday products approved by federal agencies.

Chemical exposure is chemical exposure - it all adds up.  And yes, it can happen to your kids - it may take years, but are you really willing to take that risk?

  • ONLY a million lbs used in US each year - geez

"There is no question that carbofuran exacts a toll on wildlife: A 2006 EPA document examining the pesticide's environmental effects found that if a flock of mallard ducks wandered into an alfalfa field within a week after the chemical was applied, 84 percent of the birds would die. The pesticide also kills bees, which have experienced an unexplained massive population collapse in recent years."

A million pounds of carbofuran are applied each year in the United States, affecting less than 1 percent of the nation's farmed acres, according to the EPA, but....

  • The blame game

Trailer manufacturer wants to blame FEMA because they knew of the high toxicity.  The CDC blames "fiasco" on poor ventilation & lax gov't. standards.  Might as well "kick the dog while we're at it".  Meanwhile people are sick because of it.
This is another variation of an old song called the name game only this is the blame game.  Howz about all those blamers live in a new trailer for a year and see how they like it.  I'm a "masked goddess" because of "low level" chemical poisioning.  That's what those people are suffering from, poisioning - call it another name, but that's what it boils down to.  On Companies knew about high formaldehyde levels in FEMA trailers, Dems say posted 1 year, 4 months ago 4 Responses

  • Color me soon to be gone

When are we going to learn that the unregulated products that we put on our hair and skin go down the drain and wind up somewhere?  If you don't at least care what you're putting on your body, at least think about where it winds up - as in the ground and water.  If you think the FDA is regulating these products closely, just look at the news of late.  Toxic shower curtains (phylates, etc), formaldehyde in clothing, glues, etc. - not to mention perfume (can't disclose those nasty chemicals, they're trade secrets - and hmmmm, wonder why?) The other "beauty" produts we use - those are chock full of some nasty chemicals too.  Just because you don't immediately get sick/have a reaction to something doesn't mean it's not harmful.   On Coral reefs not doing so well posted 1 year, 4 months ago 5 Responses

Ahhh, hey thanks, MG reminded me of my 1st new car, a '71 MGB - hadn't thought of that in years.  British racing green - camel interior.  What a fun car, however I later learned why most of the ones I saw looked like rust buckets.  I'm actually proud that my then boyfriend taught me to tune the carbuerators on that thing - it seemed to always need an adjustment (being a girly girl 'twas quite an achievement for me).  Burned strawberry incense in the ashtray and never could get the smell of that stuff out of the carpet.  And back then I thought chemicals were my friend!  Who would've guessed that 30+ years later I'd be a wearing MG instead of driving one!  Ahhhh, had I know then....On E.U. chemical-registration and testing law kicks in; industry gets huffy posted 1 year, 5 months ago 7 Responses

I've had to wear a mask with carbon filter inserts to my job for almost 2 years now.  Remodeling, new carpet, etc., you get my drift.  Get another job you might say.  EZ to say if you haven't developed chemical sensitivities.  Where might one go that you don't come into contact with chemicals of some kind?  And people say, but "you look okay".  And so, the Masked Goddess name is simply a spoof on the lace mask (hey, if I have to wear one!)
