  • From the heart

In the 1850's, many people were not convinced that slavery was such a bad thing. So a little lady wrote a big book about why it was such a bad thing. She wrote from the heart and told personal stories instead of data and statistics. It was very effective. We can learn from her. Environmentalists use too much data. Data just bores people. Instead, find people who are affected by environmental damage and tell their story, with passion. If a town is unconcerned about a forest being levelled, for example, find a town that had levelled a forest in the past and suffered from it, and tell that story. Put some human drama into it. To paraphrase I forget who, one levelled forest is a tradegy, a hundred levelled forests is just a statistic.

The book, BTW, is "Uncle Tom's Cabin"
