Yes, things are dire on the climate front, but Mike, there is good news that could have been had from talking to corps officials working on LACPR and state officials who developed the state's master plan.
Yes, the corps has built some height adjustment into the 100-year levee system as part of their plans as of 2057 -- about 2-3 feet of additional lifts, with that 2-3 feet already built into hard structures under construction today.
LACPR proposals also have some height adjustments added to them for sea-level rise. Is it enough? Dunno/probably not at the moment.
As far as coastal restoration work, there actually are a number of projects under way or about to begin, though state has serious questions about where it will find its share of costs for both the immediate restoration and levee projects, and LACPR dollars are not even promises from feds yet.
Bottom line is that the glass ain't empty. There's some water, er soil. How much and how quickly are the questions. On Army Corps climate efforts in New Orleans may not be enough posted 1 year, 8 months ago 1 Response
