    Grist folks,

How shameful it is that the former Vice President can be recorded using the same "allegedly" obscene word commenting on a Liberal Senator without any serious repercussions.

Regrettably, this nation is demonstrating its descent into facism: Glen Beck in general and the rest of the right wing shock jocks, the health care mistruths and staged disruptions, the objection to Obama speaking to school children, but no objection to Reagan or Bush 42 doing the same...

This nation will get exactly what it deserves.

Some may call Earth Day a PR stunt, as with Earth Hour, but we need something to smack people in the head. I live in a very environmentally hostile community...people writing letters to the local editor lambasting any environmental awareness...you can probably fill in the blanks...In a community like this it is going to take years to even approach the consciousness of other communities around the globe...The more of this kind of stuff the better... On the first Earth Day  in 1970, I was one of a group of students who symbolically buried a Ford Maverick (later dug up and recycled). For over 30 years not much changed...but now finally the worm has begun to turn...

    2007 Eco Hero Al Gore

The key factor for me is that Al Gore represents a crucial turning  point in public consciousness. He is an invaluable symbol. Purists may argue that Hansen is more important, etc. but the simple fact is that Al Gore has made a greater impact on the broader global population. People are finally beginning to think and change behavior because of Al Gore. I am in the environmental business and I see it every day. We literally describe it as the "Al Gore factor." It simply did not exist until Gore started making waves.
