    sucess story

Last year a group of students at my school worked to get fair trade coffee in the cafeteria because there is free coffee for students and staff there all day.  Like locally grown produce there is an added cost for fair trade that an external company might not be willing to take on, but in our case the administration and the company hired to run our dining hall decided fair trade was worth investing in and found ways to cut costs in other places to make up for it.  They stopped buying paper coffee cups to save money for the more expensive coffee and instituted a bring your own mug policy--which we thought was an added bonus!  The school is Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC, and we're a graduate school and  smaller than most colleges folks will deal with, but good luck.  On Umbra on getting local foods into college cafeterias posted 4 years, 1 month ago 4 Responses
