The Humboldt Energy Independence Fund (HEIF)

Aims to make the Humboldt state University campus in Arcata,CA energy independent through an additional student fee of $10/semester.

This policy change reached a student vote in the spring of 2004 where it was approved by an 86% majority!

At that time it met a political roadblock at the chancellors office when he used his executive powers to veto the implementation of this student supported policy.

In the wake of a major political shift favoring sustainability, the HEIF once again has arisen to claim its role as HSU's solution to future climate-change.  The student organizations overseeing implementation will approach the chancellor again this year to hopefully garner final approval.

Until then, the HEIF exists as a non-mandatory student fee.  At registration students will be prompted with an option to give $10 to the fund.  It is anticipated that this system will result in enough cash flow to begin campus projects now!
