  USDA Reimbursements

  It's not enough to decry the measly amount of money USDA spends on school lunches, breakfasts, afterschool snacks and meals, and summer food service meals.  If we received the Italian $5.00 let alone the French $8.00 we could provide first class, nutritious meals to every kid in the U.S.  Since most of our programs only receive the maximum reimbursement for the "free" kids ($2.34 for lunch; $1.35 for breakfast)the actual net reimbursement is far less than the "less than $3.00" you suggest in your article.  Faced with that reality and faced with growing hunger throughout Appalachia, organizations like mine have to go with the products offered by Eastside Entrees and others.  As a matter of fact, we are deeply grateful for these products.  It's better than going to bed hungry.
