Earth Day is a misplaced, misnamed, and misunderstood holiday. Most people can't understand why someone else doesn't "just do something" about all these problems. Fewer people have at least some level of awareness that something has happened, something is happening, and something continues to happen. And, fewer still are sufficiently motivated to action.

But sometimes, it only takes one person to knock over the first domino. Earth Day is the day we acknowledge that as a society, our first environmental domino fell in 1970. The dominos are continuing to drop to this day, and are even accelerating in many places.

If you look around your little piece of the earth and see no dominos falling — then perhaps it's past time for you to get up and knock one over.
