  PETA effective

  PETA's tactics have made "animal rights" and "vegetarian" a household word. They are also the biggest animal rights organization in the world. 16 years ago I was an environmentalist but didn't know anything about animal rights. It was PETA that got me to go vegetarian then. They have campaigns for all types--footage from inside slaughterhouses that is hard to watch, ads with naked people who are easier on the eye : ), funny ads, bitchy ads, demonstrations, they run the gamut and it works. When you are talking about billions of animals killed every year, I don't think there's the luxury of being finicky about how you get the message out.
