thinking this out
i agree that space mirrors seem like an over-reaction. Give the possibility of unintended consequences remedial measures should be carefully designed to mimic and maintain past conditions. In this vein it would make more sense to attempt planetary engineering at the polar ice cap at ground level. This could mean a POSSIBLE ARTIFICIAL POLAR ICE CAP designed to A) reflect sunlight back into space, and B) provide a base for rebuilding the ice cap. This could require the ability to make ice in large amounts. This may be a huge engineering problem, but it is one of scale, not technology. The problem is it will probably not get started until it is a much larger problem and people finally realize we need the ice caps to keep the earth cool.
we also need to implement clean energies on a massive scale, but that alone wont help and its quite possible we wont get China to go along with it anyway, in which case we are doomed without positive reconstructive steps.
