    I will simply survive

The author mentions "a paint so pure it is known as milk paint" It is called milk paint because it is , in fact, made from milk. It has been around for centuries. Its use was revived during the back to nature trend of the 1970's. That trend rejected alot of the damaging goods and practices so much a part of western life. It may be the start of the simplicity movement of today, or at least an inspiration for it. I see that movement as important and very genuine, and growing. Sure, the magazine simple living is kinda silly, and useless. But, that movement is more than a silly magazine. Just look to the Net. Look into Freecycle, and other groups like it. I was raised low income and think it is wonderful the author has pointed out how the lack of transportation can really hold a family back. This may seem obvious, but many are not aware of how this can really affect a persons chances at education, employment, obtaing food in bulk at greater savings and little things that can help give a person a little step up. Examples of those extra little things include thrift shops, yard sales or going dumpster diving.  But, if I see a chance to purchase or make something I need or want that is environmentally sound, I will gravitate towards it. Milk paint is an example. So is organic food and  purchasing products with recycled content. These are choices even those of us who are low income desire to make! But I'd never buy Simple Living magazine, because I thought it was silly. On Wealthy strive for posted 3 years, 9 months ago 18 Responses
