What about PEX tubing?
Elsewhere on Grist (http://gristmill.grist.org/story/2007/4/21/163129/432) PEX plastic tubing was recommended as a Green(!) building material that is lower impact than copper. Can this be a fatal internal contradiction amongst the Grist research team, merely different points of view, or is it possible -- mirabile dictu! -- that PEX isn't actually made of vinyl?
