Think outside the box
These are some good ideas for creative reuse when it comes to big boxes. However, another issue is the thousands of vacant square feet of parking lots that are often constructed alongside the boxes.
Since, as the author notes, the infrastructure servicing big boxes often represents a significant investment for a municipality, why not make better use of it by building a dense, walkable, mixed-use center that extends outwards from the repurposed-big box?
