More About Me
I live in Kirby, Texas. Kirby is a very small town surrounded by San Antonio. Almost 53 years old. My husband and I live alone on a currently slim income. I have three children and three grandchildren. We have a 52 year old house on 1/2 acre. Not your typical grandmother. I grew up in Austin which has been referred to as the Berkeley of Texas. The politicians currently representing Texas are, for the most part, an embarrassment to me. This district's congressman is a democrat thankfully. I would be the one that someone posting on Grist referred to as something like"disgusting hippie reeking of patchouli". I do bathe, but not daily usually. We do prefer to use less water. And my hair is almost to my waist. But I am a female, so..I guess that's okay? And let's see....I hate pantyhose. I think it is ridiculous to make them part of a dress code. Along with ties and jackets. In a location with long, hot summers. Ridiculous. Reduce, reduce, reduce!

I made sort of a loaf of sticks and branches against one section of my chainlink fence and then topped it with some decaying leaves. Then I put 2 or 3 handsful of dirt in little pockets of leaves on the pile. I stuck some zucchini seeds in the dirt on Wednesday evening. Saturday morning I had seedlings coming up already. I'm figuring they can grow up the fence. I have a very limited budget and am trying to use the resources that I have on hand. That part of the yard has pretty hard, dry dirt. Not to mention hundreds of tiny mesquites. So I'm doing the mulching in place thing. They look really strong today, but we'll see how it goes. A good reference: Gaia's Garden by Toby Hemingway.

My husband and I just built a compost bin from pallets. It's working better than the bed we were piling scraps and clippings and stuff on before. I wanted to pee on it like my husband can, but since I don't have the hose, pointer thingy he has, I don't think I can aim between the slats on the pallet quite as well. Though not the same natural experience that he has, I have managed to make my own contribution. I pee in a bottle inside ( it's also harder for me to not be obvious outside) and empty the bottle on the compost a couple of times a day. I put the toilet paper in a lidded container and add it to the compost as well. Nothing to flush. Maybe not the perfect sollution, but (perhaps butt)......

If it's a choice between a bad bill or no bill at all would we rather have no bill??? This bill may be unacceptable but passing what we want may be impossible right now. The science says ii's not enough, soon enough. But if we can't get what we want, then we want no imporovements....??? Is that it??? I'm not sure what the answer is but I think it might get us closer than we are now. Then we can take more steps later. We can't just force people to vote our way because we want them to. It may be easier to take several small steps rather than one huge one.
