carbon tax?
I cannot believe the haste with which they dismiss a carbon tax in these white papers. A 2008 CBO report could not have made it any more clear that a carbon tax is the most cost efficient way to reduce emissions. The fourth white paper is titled "Getting the Most Greenhouse Gas Reductions for Our Money," yet a carbon tax is not even mentioned. carbon pricing
As important as pricing carbon is, it will not lead to the construction of national high-speed train networks and urban light-rail/bus rapid transit.
I agree that a government worth its salt would be building such infrastructure right now AND legislating a carbon price (such as a revenue neutral tax). Predictable increases in carbon price would "nudge" consumers towards such transportation. On Let's rebuild our national rail network instead of repealing the gas tax posted 1 year, 7 months ago 31 Responses
