other ways to stop junk mail

greendime ... a great idea ... but for those of us to prefer to not shell out the cash, try:

    1. stuffing as much as you can in the postage-paid return envelope, clearly noting on the piece of paper with all your personal info that you want to be removed from the mailing list (i use a big black marker: very cathartic!)

    2. emailing the company (so it takes 10 seconds to find their email, it's worth it!), giving them all the info, including any funny looking numbers above your name, asking to be removed.

and to prevent getting on lists, don't forget national marketing associations which have 'do not contact' lists.  in canada you can sign up at:
    http://www.the-cma.org/consumer/donotcontact.cfm

also, if you make donations, make clear that you do not wish to receive their promotional materials or any further requests for funds just because you have made a donation.

these have worked for me, and have almost completely eliminated addressed junk mail to my house ... at least in kinder, gentler canada. On One dime a month is all it takes posted 2 years, 11 months ago 4 Responses

Another way to reduce paper usage: stop junk faxes

While fishing through the recycling box at the side of my floor's fax machine for one-sided paper, I became very aware of how much paper was being wasted as a result of junk/ unsolicited / unnecessary faxes being received. It was shocking! I made a concerted effort over the course of a month or so to sort through the recycling box beside the fax on a regular basis. I retrieved every junk fax sheet, and called every 'to remove yourself from our fax list, call xyz' number or emailed. I am happy to report it has made a huge difference in the amount of wasted paper! Keep an eye out for any new junk fax lists your work fax may somehow get put on. Tell your mates who work on other floors too!

This article was very good.  Thank you!On Taking the wrinkles out of paper recycling posted 3 years, 9 months ago 8 Responses
