    Why not a CAV?

    That stands for "Compressed Air Vehicle"

    http://www.mdi.lu/english/

    These are the first possibly carbon-less vehicles.  But no one is touting this technology, why not?  They get the same performance, require a new infrastructure investment, and a paradigm shift in thinking.  But unlike electric, we are not trading one evil for another to prolong the petroleum slide.

    Oil=Bad, Electric=Good?

    So Electricity is free?  Forty-Eight percent of electricity is produced from coal, twenty percent from Natural Gas, and Nineteen percent from Nuclear (2007 data).  Just because you don't see it pumped out of the ground does not mean it is "Free"?  Until "We" stop driving to the store, or sitting in the parking lot with the AC running, it doesn't matter if we are burning petroleum, or an energy transport made from petroleum?

    1. Recovery? How can a non-native species be "recovering"?  The current wolf population is Canadian wolves, introduced to the states.

    2. Population? The quota originally cited by environmental groups for "recovery" was 300, now that populations have exceeded 1000, they still have not recovered?  The ruling was established with a quota that environmentalist groups now suddenly back-track on.  And without control or competition, wolves are fast becoming the racoon of the west, they love all that free undefended food.

    3. "And the issue is not whether you like wolves living near you, though I certainly would", fine, then why don't you raise some wolves in your backyard, and see what nice fuzzy friends your neighbors (and their families and pets) make?

    4. The non-native wolf population is not out cavorting in the wilderness, they are invading the human settlements, because of the easy food opportunities (pet and livestock).

    5. "there are far too many people on the planet", so why don't we establish some breeding quotas on human populations?

    Small City, Dependable job

    I have moved to a 1900's home in the "city" four miles from my work.  The house might not have the amenities of a McMansion, but it is livable without Heat or AC.  When I drive, it's a Honda Fit (38mpg).  I've carefully made myself highly indispensable at work, just survived the first round of "lay-offs".
    Sure, I can't grow my own food, but who can these days?  I have do stockpiles of food, a secure storage area, and the ability to cook without grid energy.  I don't know what the future will bring, but it's going to be a wild ride? Government and the Everglades

    The federal and state government are the worst offenders when it comes to poluting the everglades, why do you think they could ever manage to clean it up?

    SFWMD is primarily responsible for the mess the glades are in!  They proposed pumping grey water into the glades in a stupidly designed way to avoid actually needing to clean sewage, and when the results was total collapse of the eco-system, the federal government fined them millions of dollars for the ill-conceived plan.  Now the same federal government is paying SFWMD to clean up their own mess (and btw, pay their fine back to the feds?)

    And nobody will touch the other major source of pollution, Big-sugar!  They dump tons of fertilizer run-off every year into what "used to be" a low-nutrient system, and walk away every year with their fat subsidy checks and no regulation.

    And then there is the City of Miami, who in a classic boondoggle, proposed pumping grey-water into the lower aquifer (>3000 feet) as their no-cost solution to sewage treatment.  Only problem is, they only drilled the seven massive wells to 2800 feet (missing the aquifer cap) and now can't do anything else but continually pump over a million gallons a day into the brackish water aquifer (and already notice the percolation effects on the drinking water aquifer).On Romney criticized McCain on climate, and more election news posted 1 year, 9 months ago 1 Response
