    Shift it over to WIND?!

Can you say 'Cape Wind' Representative Markey?

When I asked you where you stood on Cape Wind after a town hall meeting you answered my question with more questions - not even coming down off your platform to talk to me face to face.

Efforts by the grassroots group Clean Power Now to get you to take a position have been equally fruitless and you're certainly not listed on the page of supporters at CapeWind.org.

The clean and renewable Cape Wind energy project is undergoing a more comprehensive and rigorous permitting review than any of New England's fossil fueled power plants yet all you can say is you want to wait until results are in on the environmental impact statement - take a position!  It's not going to influence the opinions of the 17  federal and state agencies reviewing the project - I promise.

As Chairman of the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming I expected more from you.  This is how you define environmental stewardship?

As your constituent, I'm dispirited by the weakness of will you exhibit.  How am I supposed to respect someone who is afraid of taking a position?

The Final Environmental Impact Statement for Cape Wind will finally be released this fall and massive numbers of your constituents who really support wind energy can look forward to positive review results and moving forward on developing up to 468 megawatts of renewable wind power, with an average expected production of 170 megawatts, almost 75% of the 230 megawatt average electricity demand for Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket - no thanks to you.On Markey on House Dems' energy bill posted 1 year, 2 months ago 4 Responses

    Recycling old tennies

Nike does have a recycle program called Reuse-A-Shoe where they do just that. From their website:

Every year, across the globe, millions of pairs of athletic shoes end up in landfills or are disposed of in some other way. That's a lot of shoes going to waste that contain valuable materials that could be re-used. So with a degree of imagination, some ingenious engineering and a persistent pursuit of the principles of sustainability, we created the Nike Reuse-a-Shoe program in 1993. Since then, we've recycled more than 20 million pairs of athletic shoes and contributed to more than 250 sport surfaces to provide access to places to play for kids as part of Let Me Play, Nike's global community investment program.

Unfortunately, City Sports is where I dropped mine off for mailing to Nike and I learned from another person that they usually just throw them away (at least that's what a City Sports employee told her).

I'm not a fan of Nike but as a person who tries to recycle what I can, it appears to be the only option out there. On Newest Air Jordan shoe will be made to sustainable standards, says Nike posted 1 year, 10 months ago 3 Responses
