  Solar power

  If you really want to use solar power, all you have to do is launch an orion type ship with mining and fabrication facilities. After you launch, start producing solar cells in orbit, then beam the power down to the planet in microwaves. You could even have the ship go closer to mercury and set up the solar satellites there where they will intercept more of the sun's energy and have it beamed back from there.
