  liquid coal ?

  To beat the oil embargo during Apartheid, South Africa developed SASOL, a state sponsored industry turning their immense coal reserves into oil, sold at gas pumps around the country.
  One scare of mine has now at least temporarily calmed down: the prospect of a runaway oil system feeding on liquid coal for a century.
  With production costs making liquid coal history, hydrogen and biofuels still receiving deserved bad press from the ecologists community, its high time to prepare for a post-oil transport and heating system.

  "The sky is not falling"

  How did this book make it to the Grist list ? I assume it is by a mistake and that you will correct it.
  Unless it is not a mistake and you changed your view point and you now consider global warming to be made up by fanatics and "has been" politicians, as the book description tells us.
