    why aerosols anyway?

this simply goes back to the first R, reduce.  what is there that you really need that it aerosolized? deodorants? hardly.  essential oils?  these also come in small vials for using in oil candles etc.  it's not that hard.  Reduce. On Umbra on aerosols posted 1 year, 1 month ago 9 Responses

    kitty litter, etc.

first off, kudos.  great to see this here and your efforts are cool.  second, be prepared for some pretty significant and detailed critiques from folks here.  i think you'll find most here have done much of what you're doing, and all the so-called easy stuff:  REDUCE, i.e. no soda as above, bulk foods, less purchasing in general...

on that note, flushable cat litter?  i don't know the lifecycle analysis here, but this really seems silly.  yes, your eliminating it from the landfill, but really just transferring it to another waste system.  which is worse, more landfill space or more water use and sewage disposal?  and as you note flushing a lot more water.  what are your other options?  training the cat to use the toilet, but not flush?  composting?  i don't  know, i don't have pets, i like animals, but they don't fit my lifestyle, and this brings in all kinds of eco questions.  you'll find tons of tips on saving water on this site.  how often are you washing those cloth napkins, towels, sheets, etc? perhaps it need not be so frequent; americans have fetishized cleanliness.  have you explored using your "gray" water to water the garden?  dual flush toilets at the very least should be part of your green house.

i'd like to know the enviro options for pet owners.  anyone?

it's not the fuels, it's the cars

until we get away from the need to drive at all costs, we will continue down the road to doom.

I know this strays away from the original arguments, but really isn't our auto-based suburban sprawl the primary cause of the transportation CO2 blues?

back to the main debate of this thread.  I agree that smaller cars, could do as well.  I grew up driving econoboxes that regularly got 40+ mpg. Mazda GLCs and Honda Civics.  Can't the car companies at least match that with all their new technologies?  and diesel?  For the kind of driving I do, this is a much better option than a Prius.

in short, many options to attack the problem, and no one solutions will do it all.
