Notable Building and Company
I do work with a company called Aquascape in St. Charles, IL, who recently they completed construction on their new headquarters, and it is an amazing building! In addition to its 'green' qualities (see http://www.aquascapeinc.com/about_us/about-aqualand.php ) it also has a great company culture and is a business that builds components and features that ultimately produce a positive impact on the environment. Check it out!On 15 Green Buildings posted 2 years, 2 months ago 12 Responses

Growing Families...
Larger families is another factor to consider. We live in the Philly burbs and have three children (which is pretty normal for our area) and I have several friends who have four to six children. In the 80s growing up I knew very few families that had more than two kids (high inflation and cost of living) and since the 90s family sizes seem to be increasing. The only thing is that the cost of living has increased as well while most incomes have not. So we are forced to buy in bulk for better pricing and make fewer trips to the store to save on the price of gas. With three boys in the house, I throw VERY little away and while my fridge may be full on the day I go shopping, it does not stay that way long. It is more cost effective and easier on the environment for me to have a bigger fridge than to make several trips to the store. On Umbra on refrigerator downsizing posted 2 years, 3 months ago 34 Responses

Create a balanced eco-system in your yard
I am a firm believer in keeping it natural. By planting non-invasive native plants and a properly installed water feature such as a pond you can create an environment that will attract wildlife and keep out unwanted pests as well (if maintained properly). I also live in PA and find that my coneflowers, sunflowers, and weeping crab apple (with berry like fruit) attract birds year round - the trick is to not prune them at the end of the season. I agree that all of the work that goes into harvesting the bird seed is probably doing more harm than feeding the birds will. We have a motto - keep it simple stupid. The right plant material and habitat will attract all the friends could you ever want!On Umbra on feeding birds posted 2 years, 3 months ago 19 Responses
