spending a penny when dollars are needed
It is somewhat encouraging that more is being spent but the amounts are still so paltry as to be almost laughable. We should be spending hundreds of billions per year on these problems - not on war for oil.
The 1.2 trillion spent on Iraq would have funded enough research to solve many of the current roadblocks to non-polluting renewables. On Valley of the Dollars posted 2 years, 10 months ago 1 ResponseClick here to view comment in original post
Too little too late
Nothing proposed will have much of an impact - this is not time to gently roll into less greenhouse gas emmisions and slowly into non-polluting renewables. It's time to hit this thing with a sledge hammer - huge reductions, this year - even bigger reductions next year - no fossil fuels by 2020. Yes, we will be in energy crisis and the economy will do crazy things, but it will pass and we will survive.

hypocritical oath
Bush has always talked out of both sides of his mouth. I got a real kick out of him visiting a solar research facility that he had defunded to show his "commitment" to renewables. He had to quickly set up emergency funding to hire back some of the scientists at the facility for the photo op ("gotta have me some scientific lookin' people in the shot")- they were let go when the project again had the budget cut after the photo op.
