Wear the coat
Wear the damn coat. I don't condone killing animals, but this is an antique coat. So, if you throw it away, is that good? Now no one wears it, and this person has to go out and buy a synthetic piece of crap that has contributed to destroying the environment through the making of this garment?? The antique coat is slowly rotting in some dump, which will take how many years to decompose?
There is no simple solution here. The rational decision would be to wear the coat, as this animal it belonged to has long since been killed.
Everything we do has some effect on the environment it seems. Which has the least impact? Anyone know?On Umbra on (inherited) fur coats posted 1 year, 10 months ago 60 Responses

Any Books?
Any books on environmental careers that are worth the price? From what I am reading here, the positive green careers article that Doyle wrote, and the reality of not finding work in these comments listed here are conflicting. I, too, am a creative-type person. Should I give up all hope to find a job that is in this field, and get one where the money is, and the destroying of the earth continues? I'm disheartened by how hard it is to find a job in this field. What kind of degree is the best to get in order to succeed? I don't believe I have an engineering mindset, so that's certainly not an option. What do you guys think the answer is?On Green job planning for 2008 posted 1 year, 10 months ago 13 Responses

John Doerr Speech on Ted Talks
Very informative, and scary too. I would suggest everyone check it out. Quite moving. I definitely can help do my part in saving the environment. (I am so thankful I drive a 4 cylinder car, which I bought back 2001. I have a Subaru which is wonderful in comparison to the 8 cylinder truck I used to drive, but not quite as good as a hybrid. My next car will be a hybrid or something similar which has less impact on the environment.
I currently rent, but if I were to own a home, it would be something like the tumbleweed homes I've seen on the internet. I wish I could buy one of those, as it is quite small and utilizes space efficiently. (Good feng shui.)

I could also cut back on my consumption of consumer goods.
At any rate, videos like John Doerr's and this web site, other green web sites, along with Al Gore's movie have vaildated my nagging suspicions of what we are doing to this planet. I am renewed in my quest to do my part in helping to reverse the damage. Knowledge is power. On A couple of podcasts for your commuting pleasure posted 2 years, 6 months ago 1 Response
