Assuming CCS gets up (and I doubt it)...
... it would take just one accidental and cataclysmic release of millions of tonnes of CO2 from underground storage to put seriously at risk the entire capital investment and future of the industry.
Beware those who sing the Clean Coal mantra.
The Australian government is rightly being praised now for ratifying Kyoto but "clean coal", "clean coal" is chanted in the cathedrals of power. On Why clean coal is so darn appealing posted 1 year, 11 months ago 37 Responses

Supply Restriction AND Demand Destruction
JMG Good suggestion, although I think there should also be a dis-incentive for the purchaser of fuels once the 95% barrier has been breached i.e. increased purchase tax, thus keeping equal pressures on Supply and Demand. Who knows, the combination of all the demand destruction ideas put forward along with restricted supply of fossil fuels might just give us a chance. On Continuing the debate posted 2 years, 6 months ago 78 Responses

Forcing 5%
How about forcing 5% per annum by capping the sale of fossil fuels at point of production/importation. The number of sites is not too great and each site is large and not easily hidden. I mean refineries, coal mines, oil and gas terminals etc. Put an annual cap on sales and employ on-site independent auditors to ensure compliance. On Continuing the debate posted 2 years, 6 months ago 78 Responses
