  Scooters

  Thanks for mentioning scooters! It's worth pointing out, though, that not all scoots are equal when it comes to emissions. Many older ones - including Fellini's Vespas - have two-stroke engines, which require a mixture of oil and gas in the tank. You can identify them by the puff of blue smoke that comes out of the exhaust when they accelerate.  

  But there are some good scooters and mopeds out there, too. My Honda Metropolitan, for example, has a four-stroke engine that gets about 100 miles per gallon.

  Biofuel-powered?

  The headlines for the CNN and AP stories seem to imply that the jet runs entirely on vegetables. If one of the four engines contains a mixture containing 20 percent biofuel, then presumably the whole jet runs on only five percent biofuel. By comparison, the gas in my tank is 10 percent ethanol.

  It looks like the agreement came after the production studio was rebuked for storing dangerous explosives in the middle of Queenstown. But maybe they were going to go green anyway.
