TVA denys fish kills, blaming cold instead
From the WBIR TV-10 website: http://www.wbir.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=72432
Monday afternoon, a TVA Spokesman said they were not aware of any fish kills and were working with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation to examine and mitigate any environmental damage that it may have caused.
When asked specifically about the hundreds to thousands of dead fish found near the steam plant in the Clinch River, TVA Spokesman Gil Francis said the sudden dip in temperatures could have played a role. On TVA coal disaster is toxic wake-up call posted 11 months, 1 week ago 10 Responses

Comparing Apples to Oranges
PV does not equal CSP
PV or photo-voltaics are polycrystalline layered platters that only convert a portion (about 28%-30%) of the amount of energy that falls upon them.
CSP or Concentrated Solar Power, relies upon reflectors which to concentrate energy collected from a large area upon a central tube which superheats it and the liquid inside, which then powers a generator akin to the way that gas-fired steam turbine plants work.
PV's would require 1,000's of square miles to power the grid.
CSP's on the other hand are more efficient, and therefore would only require 100 square miles to produce the same amount of energy. On Solar thermal can save us, but it needs public clamor posted 1 year, 5 months ago 35 Responses

Switch from the Nalgene bottles to Stainless Steel
http://www.amazon.com/Klean-Kanteen-Loop-Cap-27/dp/B000FN ...
http://www.guyotdesigns.com/stainlessbottles?sc=11
The ones from GuyotDesigns have the same size "mouth" so all of your Nalgene accessories will work. I can't vouch for if the Klean-Kanteen will though. On Ignorance isn't bliss, it's just better than knowing posted 1 year, 11 months ago 9 Responses

I too am in a similar dillema
I have a 1995 Ford Ranger with the 4 cyl and 5 speed that has over 219,000 miles and is still going strong, although some components are starting to show the need for major repairs. Even with the high mileage, I still get an average of 22 MPG for daily driving, and just this last weekend averaged 25 1/2 mpg on a trip back from visiting relatives in Alabama.
I use my truck as a daily driver, as well as for the use a truck is intended for, namely hauling stuff. Frequent building projects at home, combined with helping out on my mom's farm, along with hauling of a covered utility trailer result in my need for the hauling capacities of a truck on a regular basis.
The lack of a vehicle with the same capabilities that gets better gas mileage has forced me to admit that my best choice is to spend the money needed to keep this current truck on the road.
If someone could come out with a reasonably priced retrofit kit to make it a plug in electric, I'd be ecstatic.

Sadly, I think there was some foul play in TN
In Nashville (Davidson Co.), a heavily Democrat leaning city, the polling sites were under-supplied with voting machines. This resulted in lines to vote that in some instances lasted over 4-1/2 HOURS! Don't believe me?
