    hopes for 2009

Mellow Christibus and Happy Happy New New to all...

I'm looking forward to the USA setting a good example about the environment, although, being Canadian, I'm feeling a little chagrin here... our current government are very embarrassing in this area. Logically, it is a good thing that I am about to be ashamed of my country's performance on the environment in North America. A new experience.
Oh well, at least we still have "socialized medicine". So far.

    tent caterpillars

I've been told that it works well just to destroy the tents, whether or not anybody's home at the time... they need the tents to shelter in at night and can't build fast enough when they come home at dusk. Mess them up with a stick, even.On Umbra on tent caterpillars posted 1 year, 5 months ago 14 Responses

    pasta pre-prima vera

I love the whole idea of a pre-prima vera recipe. (And the recipe does sound tasty)

It should be fairly easy to make substitutions for the cream, there are all kinds of tables designed for Vegans to help with this. On Drive a stake into winter's cold heart with a creamy, dreamy noodle dish posted 1 year, 7 months ago 7 Responses

    ecards

It may depend on the nature of the business. I get birthday cards online from 2 or 3 ebusinesses... and they actually make me feel warm and fuzzy. Small businesses. Leftie newsletters. And I'm a lonely old women.
But a card from, say, Walmart (big business) would not feels so fuzzy. Or at least, if fuzzy, cold. And slimy. Likewise my government or my phone company. On Umbra on corporate holiday cards posted 2 years ago 6 Responses

    SEA SPONGES

I used sea sponges as a substitute for tampons for about 20 years and they worked well for me;there's something about them that's antiseptic, apparantly, which is why they used to be popular for bathing.

Moisten in warm water before using, thensqueeze out and rinse in warm water between uses, and I boiled them in vinegar water at the end of each cycle. In public washrooms, I squeezed them in toilet paper or somesuch, but that's very wasteful of paper, so tried to avoid cubicles.

Squeamish folk can make a string out of oh say string, but I never found that necessary for retrieval. And I didn't like the idea of a wick, if you see what I mean.

A piece of sponge will last several months.

Don't use the ones sold for this, or the cosmetic sponges, much too expensive. I bought the huge bath or (even cheaper) car-wash sponges and cut them up. One large sponge cut up lasted for at least 4 years...

You do have to experiment re sizing at first.

They are super-comfortable, very soft. They don't stick to you like tampons do (it's the absorbant chemicals that make them stick I think.)On Umbra on that time of the month, again posted 2 years, 10 months ago 19 Responses
