Please keep in mind
that roughly half of Illinois' electricity is generated by nuclear power plants and the state sits on an 1/8 of the coal reserves in the country. Obama was elected to represent the people of Illinois.
At times it can (undoubtedly) be a challenge to reconcile the best interest of the nation and that of your constituents. I think Senator Obama has risen to this challenge admirably.
When elected president, I am confident that he will make bold moves to combat global warming and lead our nation to an energy independent future.

obviously we need to address consumption...
In the meantime, we need to look at solutions that help reduce our dependence on fossil fuels.
Biofuels are not a panacea, but if done well are not all bad either...

Go vegetarian...
or better yet, vegan!!
Truth be told, I know nothing of your family's eating habits. If you already prepare your meals sans meat, I applaud you.
If not, I challenge you to (at the very least) reduce your meat consumption.
Several commentors mentioned CSA shares-- and I must agree that eating local is great. (Also seemingly more reasonable during the upcoming summer months).
For more information on how a veggie diet reduces GHG emissions check out this article--

mmmmm.....
I highly recommend Green & Black's Maya Gold Chocolate (Dark chocolate flavored with orange, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla). It's organic, fair-trade, and very delicious. The cacao is grown by Mayan farmers in some of the poorest regions of Belize. Fair-trade has provided these growers with a viable source of income. Many are able to pay for their children's education or afford health care for their families.
