Green Chains a Welcome Change
If Chipotle's green choices bring them even moderate success, this could bring about a huge paradigm shift in franchise restaurants nationwide. As much as we may want chain restaurants to disappear, they're here to stay. If we can get them to (genuinely) embrace local food resources, we may be able to transition more quickly as a nation to greener restaurant dining.

Green Travel: An Oxymoron?
As a parent, a world traveler, and an environmentalist I too have wrestled with this issue. According to Chris Goodall's "How to Live a Low-Carbon Life" all air travel should be completely restricted except for extreme emergencies. Does that mean that my son won't know his grandparents or his extended family in Thailand? We've opted to limit our travel and buy carbon offsets whenever we do fly. It's not perfect, but it's a step in the right direction. See our blog about this very issue at http://greenbabyguide.com.

I'm Moving Overseas!
This just shows how far ahead bike advocacy is in the U.K. I would be thrilled if our government actually invested resources in making bicycling a safer alternative to driving. If we spent a small fraction of the money we're using developing alternative fuels to support cycling, we'd get huge results--and maybe even a little collective weight loss!

Low Quality Meat for Children
I first started thinking about the quality of our meat as a teenager working in the kitchen of a summer camp. We were supplied with grants for free food, similar to school lunch programs. The boxes of meat that we served to children were marked "Suitable for Use in Prisons or School Cafeterias." Hmm... It's obviously bizarre that we would lump the meat quality for those two populations together. That was fifteen years ago and it seems that our standards haven't gotten any more rigorous in the interim. Thanks for raising our attention.
