  Why was the system of gov't mentioned

  "It is self-evident that in a democratic political system the short-term interests of the present generation can pose a threat to the long-term interests of their posterity."

  I have been mulling over this one statement for a bit.  I wonder why the type of government is mentioned.  The idea of today's generation posing a threat to posterity is true in any government, any economic situation and any time in history.  It is worse though in a dictatorship where only the needs of those few in power are considered.  In our society, with the freedom of speech, movement & action, we can have a very positive effect, and we have.On A guest essay by Arthur Coulston posted 3 years, 8 months ago 26 Responses
