GMO Foods
You know, if you think about it, all this stuff might just be great - in the short term, for the US, could solve the Medicare and Social Security crises. I always figured the government plan for that was to give us all cancer, combined with unaffordable health care, and just look at how things are turning out! Smaller people with a lower birth rate from GMO foods - could mean a smaller carbon footprint! People talk about saving the planet - the planet will be here long after we're gone, albeit in rather bad shape. Doing ourselves in might just be the best thing that could happen, and we do seem terribly bent on it. It's just too bad we're going to take so many other species with us. So you see, it's all just part of the plan. Don't worry, be happy! I'll drink (organic wine, of course) to that. ;}On Will the Obama administration be the first to seriously regulate genetically modified food? posted 11 months, 2 weeks ago 2 Responses

e-book reader & paper books
Libraries I think would be quite an ecological resource for reading material. I get my books from the library, unless I'm traveling (which I don't do that often; then I buy paperbacks and give them away when I'm through). The selection can be somewhat limited, but you should know that libraries, if you haven't been in one lately, have mostly kept up with the times. I think e-books would be great, though. I read so much, and I could get all those books I haven't found at the library, and I wouldn't need paperbacks on trips. My library is very close, less than half a mile, and shares resources with libraries throughout the county. However, some people don't have this situation. I'll always be a library patron, but I'm definitely on board for e-books.On Umbra on e-books posted 11 months, 2 weeks ago 9 Responses

Dirty Tree Hugger
I pick up garbage when I walk - I've even had to adopt a multi-bag policy (not that you can't always find a plastic bag along the way). My garbage can is tiny so I can't throw it all away, I have to separate the garbage by trash/recyclable, haha! Oddly enough, most of it is recyclable. Anyway, mostly I get good honks and thanks, but kids often insult me. I say, "Well, we're just different. You're too good to pick it up, and I'm too good to live in it." As for those who call me a tree-hugger, I'm happy to agree, and then mention all sorts of things they like to hug - nuclear waste, dirty water, guns - you get it.On Umbra on deflecting eco-insults posted 1 year, 1 month ago 18 Responses

Eco Sins
I wash the dishes under running water, thus having to use lots of soap. I've tried to do it in a basin, I just can't stand the feel of the dirty water. I have a dishwasher but don't have enough dishes to use it often, and don't really know if it's better. To make up for it, I try to flush the toilet as little as possible.
