Support for Ending Poverty
It was very important for the presidential candidate to address the questions from YouTube and the general public. However, thus far, most media attention has focused on the war in Iraq and recent scandals in the White House. There are critical topics of great importance that I would like to see our candidate address in the future, especially with global poverty. As one of the nation that has pledge to fulfill the goals of Millennium Development Project, whose goal is the elimination of world hunger and poverty, this administration has not shown any substantial action to bring this fundamental problem to a stop. According to the Borgen Project, dedicated to fighting and ending Poverty around the world, only $19 billion dollars are needed annually to stop world wide poverty, hunger and malnutrition. However, more than $340 billion dollars has been poured into this "war on terror." And each year, our country has a military budge of $522 billion dollars. It's time for a new leader who will be addressing an issue that affects 1.2 billion people everyday worldwide. On Lots of good answers posted 2 years, 4 months ago 13 Responses

Poverty
This administration needs to prioritize the needs of the people in this country. The US is part of the UN's Millennium Development Project, which has the goal of eliminating global poverty. However by examining the conducts of our government, no poverty is reduced. Rather, poverty has increased. According to the Borgen Project, whose goal is to fight global poverty, it only takes $19 billion dollars annually stop world hunger and poverty. However, more than $340 billion dollars has been put into the Iraq war at a rate of $2 billion dollars per week. Our government needs to realize that it is indirectly funding poverty, violence and hunger, the three things that it pledged and vowed to eliminate. It is time for a change. Global Poverty
Nontheless, Al Gore has been fighting for an issue that is effecting this world and everyone on in it. It is better than what I can say for President Bush and his administration. Americans are put more at risk for violence since the start of this war. And our attention of preventing and stopping international terrorism has lead us into a war under false pretenses and meaningless as this one. More importantly the government has allowed extreme poverty to grow in America and in Iraq with thousands of refugees and people under extreme financial distress. The US is part of the UN's Millennium Development Project, which has the goal of eliminating global poverty. However by examining the conducts of our government, no poverty is reduced. World Bank
Even though the World Bank may not be upfront concerning its envoirnmental records and damages, it should not be overly and constantly critized for helping under developed countries. The World Bank Organization is trying to reduce world poverty and hunger. I think an organization that is trying to help the poor should at least deserve some slack and the benefit of doubt. On World Bank Defangs Watchdog posted 2 years, 4 months ago 1 Response

Senate Votes to Raise Mileage Standards
I can't be happier to hear that the senate has voted to increase fuel economy standards. The enormous amount of money and natural resources spent on gas and automobile is outrageous and definitely doing a ton of damage to our environment. At the same time, money can be saved by the American people as well as the government to put into other important global issues that we have ignored since the Iraq war had captured the nation's attention. Global issue such as poverty should be addressed and taken cared of. According to the Borgen Project, a poverty fighting organization, $249 billion dollars are spent each year on gasoline by the American people. And it only takes $19 billion dollars to end world poverty annually. If the fuel standards are raised, money spent on gas can be reduced by a fraction, enough, however, to end world hunger. Definitely a good step taken by our government. On Push to raise fuel-economy standards gaining new support posted 2 years, 5 months ago 4 Responses
