Coney Island
They've alreay started some of the demolition work -- this might be the last season to see Coney Island in its original state. The Brighton Beach area has some great Russian food right next door as well.On Brooklyn bleg posted 2 years, 7 months ago 18 Responses

Finding reliable offsets
We kept hearing the same thing about shopping for offsets -- it can be hard to tell how much pollution is really being removed. So we put together a team of Environmental Defense and outside scientists, engineers, economists, and policy experts, led by our chief scientist Bill Chameides, and asked them to create a list of criteria for credible, high-quality offsets. Among other things, the offsets must be permanent, verifiable by a third party, and appropriately tracked so they cannot be sold multiple times.
Here's the list of offsets that met these criteria. On A guide to offsetting your carbon emissions posted 3 years ago 7 Responses

Fish in the Sea
Not all fish are created equal -- some can sustain much larger catches than others. The same is true of farmed fish (some farms are more damaging to the environment and some types of farm raised fish are more likely to be high in contaminants like PCB and dioxin).

Misplaced Priorities in Ag Subsidies
Farm policies in this country aren't designed to help farmers, the environment or consumers. Despite spending billions on these subsidies, we're losing thousands of family farms every year. Meanwhile, programs to help farmers restore critical habitat are severely under funded. Crichton hardly qualifies as an expert
State of Fear is far more myth than fact. Here's a good rundown on Crichton's errors:
