    Better News

Sydney green? You've got to be kidding

I hope the rest of your green cities aren't as full of hot air as Sydney.  The skies ain't blue in Sydney any more and the rail system is on its last legs.  Green Square is green only in name and is just a property development.  And our national environment minister's plan to phase out electric light bulbs was made with an eye to an election this year,  sounds implausible  given the 'plan' to phase out disposable plastic bags in supermarkets has been going on for about ten years, is left up to industry, and has achieved little.  It also pales into insignificance from an Environment Minister who steadfastly refuses to sign the Kyoto Treaty. On 15 Green Cities posted 2 years, 3 months ago 51 Responses

    biofuels are renewable

biofuels are renewable because we can just grow more.  There are many plant sources, and there's no reason the world's remaining forests can't be protected, and more land turned over to biofuels.  The key is to protect the forests, which we aren't doing now in a biofuel free world.  Two different issues.

My part of the world is very dry but with a lot of artesian water.  I can see biofuel plantations happily sucking carbon out of our warming atmosphere. On How South American biofuels are gaining steam, and why that freaks the U.S. out posted 3 years, 10 months ago 10 Responses

Aaah, the penny's dropped. Thank you.

Nothing will turn off that altogether impossible spark of realisation that this good earth, us, and our children, have a problem, faster than a lecture.

But how stupid can people be not to connect the resource war to the bowser?  How can this movie not connect people to the idea that this damned all-consuming life isn't going to last.

Maybe it's true ... maybe us socioenvironmentally concerned earnest people who just like every other poor sad bastard out here in Joe Sixpackland have been brainwashed into believing we actually have a voice, have democracy and the freedom to chart our own future ...

    Maybe we don't.

What an idea.  For me, the penny's dropped.  The world just a got a little bit clearer. And I haven't even seen the movie yet!

    Thanks for a great review.

    global warming, not climate change

apparently the term 'climate change' was recommended to Bush by a marketing expert as it was less of a worry than 'global warming'.  the date when he started using the new term was quite clear in his speeches.  best use global warming, because that's what it is!On To address global warming, we must harness rationality, good science, and enlightened globalization posted 4 years, 6 months ago 2 Responses
