If You Support Kucinich
In many ways, Dennis Kucinich is a great candidate. But in the current system, I don't think he is a viable Presidential candidate. Kucinich supporters and others who support candidates who aren't "front runners" should actively support instant runoff voting.
Without a system like instant runoff voting, voting for a great candidate who can't win can be a dangerous thing to do. The 2000 election certainly showed us that.
Instant runoff voting is used in many places worldwide and could make a huge difference in American politics. If you want to learn more, please go to the Fair Vote website at http://www.fairvote.org/.

Thanks
Thanks, Bill, for pointing out that national coal policy needs to insure that coal miners and coal communities are not harmed. I think it's easy to forget miners and mining communities or to dismiss them as backward and unimportant. There are a lot of difficult economic and cultural issues in transforming coal mining communities but those difficulties can and must be overcome.

Climate Change Worries Harming Patients?
My patients worry about all sorts of things but I can't recall any of them reporting worries about climate change. Worrying about that would be an improvement over many of their worries. It's a problem they can do something constructive about.

Ads promoting coal aren't new
A few years ago I used the Metro almost every day to commute to work (I changed jobs four years ago and now walk to work). There were large ads promoting coal-fired electricity by pointing out that it fueled the subway we were using.
I think public transportation is generally a very good thing but that did give me pause.

Instead of insults
Not all of us West Virginians are in love with coal. It might be more useful to learn about and support the efforts of many West Virginians and others in the Appalachians to stop mountaintop removal and other environmental damage from coal mining. A good place to start is this page from iLoveMountains.org, http://www.ilovemountains.org/about.
