He's a hero...
That's hilarious. And at the same time, I'm jealous of you for actually meeting Captain Planet. ;-)

We need to give them a reason...
...to work for change. It's called a pedagogy of place. Connect what you're learning to where you live. Not something far off and hard to imagine, like the polar ice caps. But your very own back yard. "The Best of Both Worlds: A Critical Pedagogy of Place" by David Gruenwald, published in the Educational Researcher, is a good place to start if you're interested.

The Fab Four
Um...would that be some variation of turkey, fries, cheese, and toast? Don't feel bad, at least you didn't order the horseshoe ;-)

It's not the message
It's not the message Mr. Prescott, but how you're saying it. I've considered myself an environmentalist for years now, and I've often thought about going the vegitarian route. The environmental costs of the factory farm industry are indeed great, and the issue needs immediate addressing. But attacking Al Gore, driving a hummer accross the country, and really - a chicken suit? It is the way you are addressing the issue that turns people off, even environmentalist like me who know what you're saying is true.

What makes somebody moral?
To me, being a moral person is more about actions than talk. Like you said, attending church every Sunday does not make you moral. What I want to know is, how does anyone think it's right to deny people their civil rights in the name of their personal morality? In my opinion, no one has the right to shove their religion down other's throats. I thought that was what this country was all about, freedom. Freedom of religion, speech, thought, and all that good stuff. Did I get it wrong?
