    Where is the water going?

What about that lake in South America that completely disappeared?  I read about this a few months ago in the news.  The lake levels were below normal so the scientists continued to monitor the lake.  They left and came back a couple months later for their next measurement and the entire lake had drained.  Where did the water go?

Could it be that all the oil drilling (and natural gas too) and extraction has left gigantic holes in the earth that eventually fill in with the shifting movement of the earth's tectonic plates?  Could it be that when that happens, soil (and anything on top of that soil) from hundreds or even thousands of miles away is pulled toward these holes?  Could it be that some of the recent rash of sinkhole openings could be related to oil drilling hundreds or even thousands of miles away?

Could water slowly (so far) be draining from the Great Lakes because of oil drilling hundreds and thousands of miles away?  Again, what about this lake in South America that at first was draining slowly and then suddenly completely disappeared? On Shrinky-Dinky Do posted 2 years, 2 months ago 1 Response

no the price will just go up

The demand for organic coffee won't diminish, it is only going to increase so it is likely that a number of these farmers will keep going and others unfortunately will be bought out.  There's some economic injustice there (imagine that, economic injustice associated with coffee production) but the supply of organic coffee probably won't diminish as much as the price will increase significantly.

Bummer, organic coffee is one of the few items I can get at my local grocery that is the same price as the poisoned alternative (now I know why and maybe some of it never was organic). Well, it was nice while it lasted.  The good news is those who can afford organic coffee will be more likely of actually getting organic coffee.   On Grinding to a Halt posted 2 years, 7 months ago 1 Response

another dirty air day; no work, school, or economy

Ms. Dudley thinks pollution-sensitive people should stay inside on smoggy days.  Since all people are pollution sensitive, how many days would the city of Los Angeles be completely shut down?  My city has dirty air, every day would be a day off from work for everyone, but how will people ever get their shopping done if they can't go outside?  Of course, if there is nobody at work to run the polluting factories and nobody is driving their polluting vehicles to get to work, I guess the air will clean up and then we can start the cycle all over again. On She Puts the Dud in Dudley posted 2 years, 7 months ago 1 Response

    In all fairness...

Well I certainly don't agree with Victor, and in fact, I think his position -- like Sen. Inhofe's, ignoring the truth about what the scientists are saying and attempting to inappropriately discredit Mr. Gore and perpetuate the lunatic idea that global climate change is not happening and that we can pollute our environment without repurcussion -- is extremely dangerous.

However, to be fair to Sen. Inhofe, of whom I am not a fan, Al Gore may yet announce he is running for President.  There are several draft Gore web sites operating and unlike in 2004, Gore has not asked his supporters to back off and he has said most recently that if he runs he will announce in September.

Not knowing whether Gore will run for President or not, I think it is appropriate to not have this concert on the Capital Steps.  If Gore was saying, absolutely no way am I running and asked his supporters to stop, that would be different.

There's plenty of places in D.C. to hold the concert and bickering about the location is just distraction to our energies to combat climate change AND it gives Inhofe publicity. On The Hill's Not Alive With the Sound of Music posted 2 years, 7 months ago 2 Responses

    Inhofe exposes evil scientists

While on the subject of the Senator, I thought I'd share the blog I wrote last week.  Though it is satire and hopefully somewhat funny, there is an important question in here for Sen. Inhofe.

    March 22, 2007
"Inhofe Exposes Evil Scientists, Pharmacists Next on List"

I read in the news yesterday that Sen. James Inhofe of Oklahoma, Rep. Joe Barton of Texas, and Rep. Ralph Hall, also of Texas, do not believe in the American educational system.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007 ...

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007 ...

Okay, those were not their exact words, but the astute can read between the lines. They said -- to Al Gore as he was giving testimony before Congress -- that they do not believe the scientists about global climate change.

Reading between the lines, what I hear these men saying is that they do not believe the American education system has produced credible scientists. I wonder what else they believe our educational system has failed at?

I thought we had one of the best educational systems in the world and that our scientists were some of the best in the world, but according to Inhofe and his colleagues, that just is not so.

According to Inhofe and his colleagues, our scientists do not know what they are doing, cannot correctly gather and interpret data, and misunderstand the simplest of phenomena.

But it's even worse than that. Inhofe has called global climate change "the greatest hoax ever perpetrated against the American people."

Not only are the scientists inept, but according to Inhofe, they are frauds, out-right liars, and, ... well, evil. If not for evil, what motivation could these alleged scientists have for perpetrating such a tremendous hoax?

Who knows how many millions in public money has been wasted on the errant research they do at NASA, NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association), and other places employing these evil imposters who fiendishly earned science degrees at our nation's top research universities before securing their public sector employment where they apparently plan to take over the planet via manipulation of the glamorous, high stakes, power-broker world of climate science.

And all this time I had thought NASA and NOAA had some of the best scientists our nation could produce. Ha! They are all frauds instead!

I am a bit alarmed that Inhofe and his colleagues have not sought to further educate the American public on this crisis in our science. And why aren't they raising a fuss in Congress and calling for the dismantling of NASA and NOAA? Shouldn't heads be rolling (metaphorically speaking) over the waste of taxpayer money going to these obviously dysfunctional and corrupt agencies that employ these liars and failures posing as our nation's and the world's top scientists?

Of course, these evil imposters have done themselves in, as liars often do. They have given time frames for the polar ice caps melting and temperature and sea level increases, and if these things do not happen within those time frames, then we will all know they are indeed frauds and failures.

Of course, if the things predicted do happen within the time frames the scientists have given, it will be too late to do anything about it. But no need to worry, according to Inhofe and colleagues, these scientists are wrong and perhaps even purposefully trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the American public.

I wonder if this problem in our science is just with climatologists or if it extends to other places such as scientists working on medical vaccines and military technologies? What about the ones working with radioactive materials? Hopefully they have to pass a more rigorous background check and psychological screening than the climate scientists apparently do.

And what about the ones developing pharmaceuticals? Could they all be frauds and failures too? Maybe a large percentage of our prescription medications are really just placebos. After all, they would have more motivation for fraud as much more money can be earned marketing a pharmaceutical than in studying the climate.

Come to think of it, what motivation do these conspiring fraudulent climate scientists have for perpetrating this hoax on the American people? I mean, how do you get filthy rich or take over the world that way?

Maybe it's not as sinister as world domination. Maybe these plotting climate scientists are all just old college buddies of Al Gore's and promised him they would help him win a Nobel Peace Prize. A big sigh of relief if that's all they are after.

I can only think of one way to find out for sure, though. Inhofe must have the inside story and so he's the man to ask to explain to us what motivation these people have for perpetrating this hoax. I don't know how Al Gore feels about it, but I am definitely looking forward to hearing the Senator's answer.
