my usual comebacks
I always bring my own bags to the grocery and when I hand them over I say somewhat loudly and with a smile, "Just trying to save the world one plastic bag at a time...someone's got to do it!" When I pick up trash, it's much the same with a smile and a shrug, "Recycling one piece at a time; I'm trying to save the world!"On Umbra on deflecting eco-insults posted 1 year ago 18 Responses

kudos
I know there's lots more room on this green bandwagon we're on (hybrid, of course) and making more people aware you're here is a very good thing!!On Time hearts Grist, Grist hearts flattery posted 1 year, 6 months ago 2 Responses

released!
I hope the previous nasty note is being sarcastic, but I, for one, am glad that Umbra is back among us and ready to answer our questions cheekily. and thoroughly. and authoritatively. On Umbra on bleach posted 1 year, 11 months ago 2 Responses

We must convince the non-tree-huggers...
The spots on Today were great! It's important to start people out with some not-insubstantial baby steps that point in the right direction. The feel-good they get from trying to help the planet might morph into lifestyle changes they will learn about by reading Grist and Umbra and IdealBite. Most people really do want to do the right thing; it's good to give them some concrete ideas so they can.On How to recycle athletic shoes, iPods, mattresses, and other oddities posted 2 years ago 7 Responses

PARTY!
I wish I could have been there--I agree that the organic red wine would have been up my alley. Sometimes it's good for like-minded folks to get together, meet new people, and celebrate some success. Having GRIST in our lives is one of those successes. I may not be 60 and from Ohio but I'm a 58 yr. old Virginia matron and there's more of us out chuckling with you young whipper-snappers over GRIST than you can imagine. On It kicked ass posted 2 years, 12 months ago 15 Responses
