compost workshops!
Eureka Recycling offers both backyard and worm composting workshops to help beginners learn to compost. Check them out at www.eurekarecycling.org. This is a great resource if you want to reduce your waste. They have a lot of good resources even if you don't live in St. Paul. On Umbra on compost and climate posted 1 year ago 13 Responses

thanks for the idea!
I dressed up today as a CFL lightbulb...just stuffed tube socks and pinned them in a swirl to a white shirt. I won 4th prize at work (I do work for a recycling company...) All thanks to your ideas, Umbra :)On Umbra on eco-themed Halloween costumes posted 1 year ago 5 Responses

I like Restore!
It may not be available everywhere, but there is a great product available to us in Minnesota called Restore, made right here in Minneapolis and I think their dish detergent is great (never leaves my hands dry) and works pretty well and smells great. Plus, it is refillable and they have other awesome cleaning products (like their oven cleaner and toilet bowl cleaner) that work extremely well. Not sure how it is on the dioxin front, but I know it is made from real ingredients. On A test of six green dish soaps posted 1 year, 4 months ago 18 Responses

"recyclable"
My 2 or 3 cents...I dislike plastic containers and just because it has the chasing arrows doesn't mean it is entirely recyclable. Many communities offer to "recycle" all numbers in an effort to get most of the plastic that is recyclable. Where I live, we have a stellar recycling facility that educates the community about what it can and cannot recycle. Even some 1's and 2's cannot be recycled in MN because they are molded plastic rather than blown plastic and the molds use fillers that are garbage plastic. It is also really energy intensive to make plastic and recycle it. I think Amy's uses paperboard which might be biodegradable (I haven't looked in awhile)...so that is swell! Just some thoughts. cast-iron skillet is tops!
Cast-iron skillet is the best gift. Very durable for college cooking (mine lasted through my house of 10 women as housemates in college). Instructions on seasoning maybe helpful, though. On Umbra on graduation gifts posted 2 years, 5 months ago 3 Responses
