models
"we should be very dubious of all macroeconomic forecasts, since the slope of those curves is never really known until after the fact. At which point, what good are the predictions?"
Well gee... Isn't this exactly what people say about climate models? :-)On WSJ on the carbon tax vs. cap-and-trade debate posted 2 years, 2 months ago 17 Responses

macro vs. micro
This isn't the right place to argue this, but I'm a macroeconomist so I feel compelled to defend its honor!
Macro isn't microeconomics (but it tries real hard) and if you define economics as microeconomics then you get observations like your professor's.
That said, all sciences have models, which by necessity, are simplifications of reality. No useful model can explain everything. Macroeconomists have some useful models that often don't say anything (or say the wrong things) about aspects of the economy that the model isn't intended to address. On WSJ on the carbon tax vs. cap-and-trade debate posted 2 years, 2 months ago 17 Responses

elasticity of gas
If gas is inelastic, doesn't that mean taxes or cap-n-trade policies will be ineffective at reducing emissions? On WSJ on the carbon tax vs. cap-and-trade debate posted 2 years, 2 months ago 17 Responses
